Put on the Whole Armor of God
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:13-

Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." This verse clearly tells us that our battle with Satan is spiritual. I found an interesting article in the University Library. It really got me to thinking about the armor we need to have in this world. We spend so much time and money on our clothing, I have seen people that could shop all day and that would take hours to get themselves ready to go somewhere. The question I have is Are we as concerned about our spiritual clothing? Do we make sure that our WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD is all in place before leaving for the day? Our armor is more important than your best outfit, and trust me, in this world without the armor of God we are in deep trouble. According to an article in News Bank President N. Eldon Tanner ,who in April 1979, was the first counselor in the First Presidency. Tanner was considered a great politician and a man of Dignity, he counseled members about putting on the whole armor of God. Tanner states "The great unrest in the world today and the wars and rumors of wars are affecting us greatly; but as Paul says, our greatest and most deadly struggle will be 'not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the

Throughout many of the chapters Anderson mentions how our struggle with un-holiness is less when our parents or loved ones meet the needs we have to be loved. Anderson then tells us the importance in realizing our worth in God. He says “In Christ we are important, we are qualified, we are good. Satan can do absolutely nothing to alter our position in Christ and our worth to God. But he can render us virtually inoperative if he can deceive us into listening to and believing his insidious lies accusing us of being of little value to God or other people”…

In his clarification of the nature of psychological problems and mental illness, Anderson (2000) places a high emphasis on spiritual warfare; reminding the reader, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds” (2 Corinthians 10:4, KJV). Anderson provides many examples of counselees whom he believes have succumbed to the deceptive tricks of Satan, explaining what may have been diagnosed as mental illness is actually spiritual oppression; or in cases of non-Christians, actual demon possession (Anderson, 2000). By drawing attention to scripture in Paul’s letter to Timothy, Anderson illustrates his point: “But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons” (I Timothy 4:1, NASB). Thankfully, Anderson (2000) provides a detailed method of obtaining daily victory over the spiritual forces of darkness by outlining what Hawkins (2010) would refer to as a method of “discipleship counseling” – the seven steps to freedom in Christ. The freedom and protection which is afforded by the Christian is stressed, as well as the position of authority Christians have over the enemy. Freedom is accomplished by taking the first step of…

In Harriet Beecher Stowe’s, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the values of her Christian beliefs play a major role in a central theme of salvation through Christianity. As the story is centralized around Uncle Tom, who epitomizes and embodies Christ’s image, it is meant to display what slavery can do to the purist of human spirits. This quotation from Tom summarizes the strength of the human spirit through Christianity, finding the preverbal “good” in unlikely places, and ultimate battle of good versus evil that is ignited by the institution of slavery in the antebellum south.…

It seems as though in today’s age and time that Satan’s existence is more real and prevalent not only among society, but among Christians, as well. But, it isn’t the talk of Satan that is alarming so much as the type of attention and talk that he is receiving. Our modern day society has transformed him from being the evil, factual being that we know him as into a sinister, more humors fictional character used to make ‘great’ movies and entertainment.…

While Satan’s humane emotions were demonstrated earlier in the narrative, his soliloquy further explicates the complexity of his thoughts. Throughout the first few books, Satan does not demonstrate any vulnerabilities. He is glorified as an obstinate and prideful Spirit who surpasses all others in Hell and who knows exactly what he yearns. Though Satan’s abilities are of no question, this one-sided view of Satan – that he is a competent and powerful devil – appears lacking; therefore, the demonstration of Satan’s vulnerability in his soliloquy is a progression in his character development. Satan finally senses “horror and doubt,” and is drenched in grief by his “remembrance from what state [he] fell” (4:17, 38-39). This is the first time Satan is described to have self-doubt, and specifically, in…

In verses ten through seventeen, as a response to these evil men, Paul gives Timothy two vital resources to help him defend against any kind of attack. The first resource being Paul’s personal lifestyle example, and the second being the Word of God. Paul begins unpacking Timothy’s arsenal of resources by bringing into remembrance nine specific qualities that the young minister had observed in the life of the apostle, and that stand in contrast to the list in the preceding verses. Heading the list are teaching (doctrine) and conduct, both of which are at the root of the problems faced in Ephesus and as a result are “the most significant aspects of Paul’s ministry relative to Timothy’s historical situation.” It is also important to note that the remainder of the list: purpose, faith, patience, love, steadfastness, persecutions and suffering, are an outflowing of these two and make up a complete package of Paul’s character. It is not with pride, but excessive humility, that Paul offers his life as an example to Timothy and wishes him to emulate it. By pursuing a godly lifestyle, Timothy will be able to stand against any assault on his character. Paul follows this by noting locations where he had received harsh treatment for proclaiming the…

They just started out, walked down Bluestone Road and came together at the agree-upon time,” (303).…

In Philip Roth’s, “Defender of the Faith”, Sergeant Nathan Marx is the “Defender” of whom the title speaks. Reluctant at first, Marx defended his faith on two fronts, one across the sea in Europe and the second in the United States. The battle in the states was of a different type. Marx learned what it was like to defend his and the faith of his fellow Jews against prejudice and abuse by those who waged the war.…

When Paul instructs us to "overcome evil with good" he isn't just reminding us to do good by caring for those who are in need. He is instructing us to confront evil head on. To be bearers of goodness and truth to our enemies and also to our neighbors. This doesn't mean bringing our neighbors to our political side. It means brining them to the truth of Christ’s love. We are called to act when those in the world around us are perpetuating acts of evil, instead of sitting on the sidelines because it is an uncomfortable conversation to have.…
