    The two short stories I haven chosen is The Knife by Judah Waten and Yellow Brick Road by Witi Ihimaera. The Knife, is about is a short story about a young Italian- Plinio, who has immigrated to Australia from a poor village in Calabria, in a very desolate part of Southern Italy. Plinio then starts to remember about the life he had back home and that he lived in poverty and had a very modest life. Then it describes that Plinio walks home from work and sees a girl (Mavis Keer) with a group of people and her boyfriend (Tommy Lawler). Tommy then sees Plinio looking at his girlfriend and is jealous and decides to humiliate him in front of his friends. One night when Plinio was on his way home, he sees Tommy and his friends. Tommy decides to bash Plinio up. As Tommy starts to punch him, Plinio took out his father knife and stabs Tommy. Tommy friends run away living Plinio, Tommy and Mavis in the street. The story Yellow Brick Road is about a Maoris family that travels to Wellington from their village Waituhi. They are travelling in a car for nearly two days. The characters are thinking back about their village and are missing the family members. When they are about to rich their destination, the main charaters dad stops the car.
