Introduction
A Quantity Surveyor (QS) is a construction professional, plays a significant role in the construction industry. In a development or construction process, QS involves actively in both pre-contract and postcontract stages. The main role of QS in construction field is to consult clients on the project cost, so QS often known as the project’s financial manager. In order to ensure a project success, a QS must be appointed to regulate the cash flow and ensures the product is produced within the initial budget. Quantity Surveying profession in non-construction sectors, such as oil and gas, insurance company, bank, and others. Search on the potential areas for
QS to venture has become a trend due to the change of economies and increasing number of QS in construction field. It is done to provide more choice to QS especially those undergraduates and fresh graduates in this particular course in their future career.

Job scope of a Quantity Surveyor
There are two main type of Quantity Surveyor- Consultant’s QS and
Contractor’s QS, engaged by the Client and Contractor respectively. QS acts as the construction cost advisor in building, civil and engineering projects.
2.1 Consultant’s Quantity Surveyor
At the pre-tender stage, a Consultant’s QS will conduct feasibility studies for the project, if it is demanded by the client. Feasibility study is to determine whether the project is worth or viable to continue. The QS is obliged prepare the preliminary cost estimates using elemental cost analysis, to enable the Client understands his cash flow before selection of proposal is made. The Client will set a cost limit for QS to suggest alternative proposals that adhere to the budget, then appraise them and recommend to the Client.
