. Our organization was founded in September of 1940. It was incorporated in 1940 as well when more individuals were seeking their service. The mission of our organization is to assist the homeless. The purpose for this letter of intent is to have funds generated to the Denver Rescue Mission in the amount of $20,000.00individuals and families give them a place to stay on a cold night and feed them as well. The long term goals would be to have each person become more independent on his or her own everyday life skills, find some kind of work and rent an apartment or home, while on the financial side of this is to be able to pay their rent and other such bills. Programs provided are to help the families get back in control of his or her finances as well as housing by helping to find some stable housing and paying the first month rent and deposit. Another program is to assist with job research; other programs are to help the drug and alcohol attics with rehabilitation, then to follow through with job search and housing. This organization will reach out to the community for donations, or for volunteers to assist with some fund raiser activities. In the opinion of the funder, and making sure we are able to expand making more room for beds and for storage of bedding supplies or extra pull out beds. The first year of funding this project is making sure those who need the shelter are not so crowded and can feel a bit comfortable with his or her surroundings. Cover Letter

Dear Mr. Pletzer: The Denver rescue mission is submitting this proposal to your agency for the amount of 20,000 to help our organization to expand our facilities and make more space in our shelters available. The expansion will not only increase space in our shelter it will also provide our residence with traditional programs that will assist him or her with other services to get our seniors the help that is needed to get him or her off the streets of Denver and surrounding cities. The program will provide short term housing help for our homeless population with a strong focus on our senior population. The board of directors from the Denver rescue mission with assistance from local social service agencies providing referrals, this assures the increase of shelter time. President, Board of Director Summary In summary the organization is the Denver Rescue Mission, and the organizations mission is to change the lives of those who frequent the shelters. This organization has a couple of buildings set up to house anywhere from 100 to 500 homeless individuals. The proposed project is the Denver Rescue Mission, with a purpose of assisting those who need shelter at night when the nights are cold or for weather conditions, the purpose of this assistance is for those who are homeless and no other place to stay. This project is very important because there are many who sleep outside against the weather elements, and accomplishing this project is very important in saving lives. During the time of the grant the shelter can get extra beds and more space for these beds, as well as the storage to hold the added and needed supplies. This organization is important to the community and all who need the services; some may have lost his or her job, or home, or even be living out of his or her car. Without the shelters and the funding that is needed this population would die off from living out in the cold or being hungry on the streets. In writing credibility looks the other way. They are sometimes not clean, ragged clothes, and begging for money or food. I have a family member that finds friends to stay with and if this is not available sleeps wherever they can to stay warm, sometimes in a dumpster. There is no cost to this program it is run off of grants, federal aid, and donations of cash, food, and clothing. Community Assessment Process and Needs/Problems Statement The problems needs and issues are situations for the preparation of the grant proposal; the community is part of the organization stepping up to help out the homeless individuals. The problem statement for homeless individuals is the lack of assistance for those who want it and the lack of shelters to help the many individuals across the United States. In 1994 an organization launched a project for veterans who became homeless after coming back to the states from his or her tours of duty. This program was called “Community Homelessness Assessment, Local Education and Networking Groups.” The veterans have become part of the homeless population as well as the many individuals who have lost a job, home, or family. The homeless client is in need of this assistance, as an example those individuals who cannot get into a shelter at night will try to sleep near a heater vent outside of a building, or in a dumpster, and just about anywhere a person can take some sort of coverage from the weather. Some homeless individuals are this way because of drug and alcohol abuse, others may have just lost a job or fallen on hard times. Where are the homeless individuals, he or she are around some will stay around the area that has the shelters, or wander around the parks, others will walk the streets with a shopping cart of their belongings and pan handling for food or even beer or liquor to drink. The drug addict individual will wander the streets to find their next hit and without money he or she will run errands for the dealer in exchange for drugs. After this day and every day each person heads back to the shelter for the night. The need is very evident when the weather gets colder in the late fall early winter time and the shelters are full to capacity and over some. In cities over the United States there are more homeless individuals than there shelters or rooms to cover this amount of individuals. Without the shelters that are currently open too many people would try to live in the streets or alleys to stay warm. This could be a start of crime in the cities for those who are trying to survive the bitter cold. There still needs to be more shelters to cover this rising problem. The need is to try and educate the homeless people because there are some who do not want to be in this type of setting and others who really do not care and making changes is not in his or her plans. Social services can assist the homeless families with getting into some form of housing and food assistance. A social worker also can direct these families with job services and some home stability. The other need to assist the drug and alcohol individual in becoming abuse free, here is where the challenge lies. Some do not want help and will live on the streets just to do so or are so sick from the drug and alcohol abuse and cannot really think what is right and wrong or what direction should be taken. This need occurs because of the economy prices are going up and wages are getting cut or companies are going out of business. People are taking on cut backs in wages at his or her job and even taking on layoffs, problems in a household, divorce, and even death. Some individuals can work through these types of problems while others are not sure what direction to take. Loss of job can be very embarrassing to some and not to others; some know how to handle this and bounce back others end up on the streets and homeless shelters. Here the individual can get some counseling to assist him or her and put his or her life back in the right direction.

Here in Colorado the media will report on the homeless issues, a family member who chooses to be homeless and not improve his life. Life is difficult for some who are trying to do the right thing and finding a job can be just as difficult if your self-esteem is very low. Walking around in certain areas you can see the homeless lying around in a park or even with a shopping cart to hold all their belongings. Others have backpacks to hold their clothes and noticeable at that. More evidence to this is the clothing drives and fund raisers to help support the many displaced individuals. The consequences of meeting this need is to get more homeless individuals off the streets and better educated. Working at educating the homeless and bringing down the number of individuals on the streets and in the shelters should be a top priority in any city. Too many people lose his or her life trying not to help him or her. These are the ones who will try to curl up in corner of an alley or behind a building where there is a heating vent. When it is really cold the person can still lose his or her own life, and here is where the shelters and the community need to stay a step ahead. The need to educate and get the people out of the shelters is a long term goal. Currently we do not have enough shelters to house all of those who do live on the streets, this would include the teenage runaways, the elderly, our military, and other individuals who are just lost in a system that is hard to recover from. The need of help is what the Denver Rescue Mission is all about, and their goal is to get the homeless off of the streets and into a home with a job and some stability. Not everyone who is homeless wants to be homeless but do not know how to ask for help.
