The four most common statistical packages that nurses use for research are Statistical packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS), Microsoft Excel, XLSTAT, STATA and SAS (CourseConnect, 2016). For my research study, I would use the SPSS package because it is easy to use, can take data from almost any type of file and use them to generate tabulated reports, charts, and plots of distributions and trends, descriptive statistics, and complex statistical analysis (University of Windson, n.d.).

I would randomly choose 40 people, 20 who receive subcutaneous injections of insulin and 20 people who receive insulin through an insulin pump. I would get a baseline A1C level on every participant and then every 3 months for 12 months I would test A1C levels on the same day, between 9AM and 10 AM using the same machine. I would use a quantitative data collection strategy; the data I am gathering will be measured and expressed as numbers. I would use physiological measures because I am measuring glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels with an HbA1c) laboratory test. I would use statistical data collection, I would use interval level of measurement because it measures actual numbers that can be categorized and ranked and because I do not have a natural zero point ( Nieswiadomy, 2012). I would use inferential statistics because I am comparing two groups (2 independent variables) against one dependent variable to see if there is a difference in the outcome of A1C levels between the two groups. The data I would obtain would be numerical data for both groups; it would be from all the participants A1C levels for a year.

My research question is do type 2 insulin dependent diabetics who receive insulin through a pump have the same body image concerns about as diabetics who receive insulin injections?
I would use Emergence of a Theme to analysis my research because it would show me the similarity principles and the contrast principles between the two
