Queen Levana Insane
“Well, you need the villain. If you don’t have a villain, the good guy can stay home.” Christoph Waltz.Villains are like school, you don’t really like it but you would be nowhere without it. A villain is a character that is evil and creates problems in the story. Queen Levana from Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles, and the Sirens from Homer’s The Odyssey. Queen Levana is the queen of Luna and lets know one dampen her reign, she will do anything to get what she wants. The sirens are mythical creatures that attract men to their island with their voices and then as soon as they are on the island they are killed. Although the Sirens are villains, and good ones, it is clear that Levana is better at being the bad guy.

To begin, Levana is insane. The text exemplifies that by saying, “It has been ages since Levana could remember feeling such contempt...Her annoying stepdaughter was dead and she would never again have to listen to her mutterings and indulge her inane wishes too.”(Meyer) This shows that Levana is insane because she wanted her step daughter, princess Winter, dead because she was a bit crazy from lunar sickness and knowing that she is dead gives her contempt. Not to mention, Levana is power hungry. The text exemplifies, that Levana was about to marry king of the eastern commonwealth then take over the earth(Meyer). This illustrates that Levana is power hungry because ruling luna was not enough for her, she need to rule earth to she had to make sure that she was the most powerful being in the galaxy. Furthermore, Levana is cruel. In the text it states, “You are hereby found guilty of trespassing and attempted theft again the crown. This crime is punishable by immediate death…. Your family members will each receive a dozen public lashings as a reminder to your sector that I do not tolerate my decisions being questioned.”(Meyer 6) This example shows that Levana is cruel because she sentenced someone to death because they questioned her reign, she is also punishing his family even though they did anything wrong.
