QUESTION 4 Discuss the theory of neoteny in relation to human evolution QUESTION 7 The average sense difference between two individuals increases as they are sampled from the same local population, two separate [populations, two species, two genera and so up to kingdom (such as plants and animals) up to approximately what stage in this sequence can evolution be observed in human life time SUBMISSION DATE; 16th May 2012
(a)Molecular evolution comprises of two terms molecule and evolution. A former term implies as an aggregate of at least two atoms in a definite arrangement held together by special force whilst a latter (evolution) refers to all changes that have transformed life on earth from its earliest beginning of the diversity that characterizes it today. Hence molecule evolution is regarded as the study of the evolutionary patterns and processes of nucleic acids and proteins, as well as the use of these molecules in studies of phylogenetics, population genetics, biogeography, and other areas of research and at different levels of biological organization.DNA(Deoxyribonucleic acid) is a molecule of central-concern in this context.

DNA is made of a long sequence of smaller units strung together. There are four basic types of unit: A, T, G, and C. These letters represents the type of base

DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic acid and looks like a spiral. The spiral is also known as a double helix. The strands are made up of our genetic information, composed of genes and chromosomes. There are four bases divided among purines and pyrimidines. On the purines there are Adenine (A) and Guanine (G). On the pyrimidines there are Cytosine (C) and Thymine (T). The base pairs are Adenine and Thymine (A-T) and Cytosine and Guanine (C-G). DNA is found in the nucleus of every human cell. Humans have 46 chromosomes. When a cell reproduces, the chromosomes get copied and distributed to each offspring.…

DNA is typically has two strands running in opposite direction and is usually referred to as a double helix. Each on the individual strands consists of a backbone that is formed by sugar molecules linked together in groups. Each individual sugar molecule is covalently linked to one of the following possible bases: Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine and Thymine. These bases are typically aligned perpendicular to the axis of the strand. As previously stated the strands run in opposite directions with the bases paired up with Adenine always with Thymine and Guanine always with Cytosine. Theses pairs form hydrogen bonds with the A/T pair having 2 and the G/C pair having 3. The extra hydrogen bond makes the G/C pair stronger.…

DNA made up of units called nucleotides, nucleotides are made up of three molecules components, a nitrogen base, a sugar, and a phosphate (Simon, Reece, Dickey, 2010). The nucleotides are joined together by bonds between the sugar of one nucleotide and the phosphate of the next producing a long chain of nucleotides resulting in a sugar-phosphate backbone (Simon, Reece, Dickey, 2010) the base containing nitrogen is the only part that is variable represented by, A Adenine, C cytosine, G guanine, and T Thymine. The sugars and phosphates form the backbone of the molecule and are on the outside. The bases point inwards horizontally. The antipoarallel strands run in opposite directions and are held together by hydrogen bonds between the base pairs, these two long strands twisted and wrap around each other to form a double helix. Hydrogen bonds between bases hold the strands together; each base pairs with a complementary partner: A with T, and G with C (Simon, Reece, Dickey, 2010).…

DNA is a structure of specific molecules and a complex mixture of chemicals. DNA is a nucleic acid, which is a group of complex compounds that can be found in all living cells or viruses, and controls cell health and function. Nucleic acids are composed of polymers and monomers, which are referred to as nucleotides. There are four different types of nucleotides that make up the structure of DNA, which are abbreviated A, C, T, and G. Covalent bonds join together nucleotides through sugar and phosphate. Polynucleotides, or a polymer nucleotide, which tends to be longer than a monomer nucleotide, contains many variations of arrangements of A, C, T, and G.…

Dean Coril was a 33-year-old electrician living in Houston, Texas, who with two teen accomplices was responsible for kidnapping, torturing, raping and murdering at least 27 young boys in Houston in the early 1970s. Dean Corll was an electrician for Houston Power and Light, but most of Henley's friends knew him as the Candy Man, so named because he had labored for years in the candy manufacturing plant that he and his mother had once owned. Corll was famous for giving away candy to the kids. Coril had an odd choice of friends, who were mostly young male teens. Two, who were particularly close to Coril, was a 14-year-old boy named Elmer Wayne Henley and a 15-year-old boy named David Brooks. The three spent much time hanging around at Coril's house or driving with him in his van. That was until August 8, 1973, when Henley shot and killed Coril at his home. While in police custody, Henley began to tell about his relationship with Coril. He said Coril paid him $200 or more for each boy that he could lure to Coril’s house. After searching Coril's house, the police discovered a bedroom that looked as if it was designed for torture and murder. There was a board with handcuffs…

BSC2011C Final Review Unit 1 Review Ch. 25, 22, 23, 24, 26, 19, 27 Ch. 25 1. Life is metabolism and heredity. Metabolism is the mechanism that creates order and complexity from chaos, by acquiring and expending energy. Heredity is the ability of an organism to copy itself and it is broken down into: i. Multiplication, ii. Inheritance, iii. Variation. 2. DNA codes via RNA for 20 of naturally occurring amino acids. Amino Acids are the building blocks of proteins and bodies. DNA stores and transmits hereditary information, but proteins do most of the work. DNA IS THE UNIVERSAL DIGITAL CODE FOR LIFE. To replicate and synthesize proteins, DNA relies on the pre-existence of protein molecules and RNA molecules. 3. RNA is the bridge between DNA and proteins, via mRNA for transcription and rRNA for translation. Thus, RNA can survive on its own while DNA relies on the existence of RNA and proteins, with them DNA is helpless. 4. The 4 points of “first life” are: 1. The Abiotic (non-living) synthesis of small organic molecules, such as amino acids and nucleotides. 2. The joining of these small molecules into macromolecules, including proteins and nucleic acids. 3. The packing of these molecules into “protobionts,” droplets with membranes hat maintained an internal chemistry different from that of their surroundings. 4. The origin of self-replicating molecules that eventually made inheritance possible. 5. The first cells to develop occurred in this order: Monomers > Polymers > Protobionts > RNA ‘world’ > DNA protobionts > first cell. 6. Fossils are the evidence of life and evolution. Organisms trapped in sediment > remain mineralized with hard and soft parts. 7. Fossils can be dated by two methods: Radiometric dating & Magnetism. In Radiometric dating, the age is based on the decay of radioactive isotopes. A radioactive “parent” isotope decays to a “daughter” isotope at a constant rate. The rate of decay is expressed by the half-life, the time requires for 50% of the parent…

A DNA molecule which is the abbreviation for deoxyribonucleic acid is made up of precise lengthy chains of polymers and monomers and they are called nucleotides. These two (2) chains specifically which are composed of DNA strain are then molded by the grouping of the nucleotides into the polynucleotides. The nucleotide is composed of a nitrogenous base, a phosphate and a group. In DNA there are four (4) nucleotides that can be found along the DNA chain. These four (4) nucleotides are (T) thyme, (A) adenine, (C) cytosine, and (G) guanine. These four (4) nucleotides are fused together by their covalent bonds. In other words the sugar and the phosphates which composes the sugar/phosphate support of the polynucleotide.…

DNA is a nucleic acid, which consist of long chains (polymers) of chemical units (monomers) called nucleotide. A molecule of DNA contains two polynucleotides, each a chain of nucleotides. Each nucleotide consists of a nitrogenous base, a sugar, and a phosphate group. Each DNA strand serves as a mold, or template, to guide reproduction of the other strand. There are four different types of nucleotides found in DNA, differing only in the nitrogenous base. DNA is contained in blood, semen, skin cells, tissue, organs, muscle, brain cells, bone, teeth, hair, saliva, mucus, perspiration, fingernails, urine, feces, etc. The four nucleotides are given one letter abbreviations as shorthand for the four bases: A is for adenine, G is for guanine, C is for cytosine, and T is for thymine.…

A seemingly endless debate continues over the legitimacy of teaching evolutionary theory in classrooms, particularly in communities where religion plays a prominent role in community life. Some church leaders, teachers and school board members argue that alternate explanations provided by creationists or proponents of intelligent design should be taught alongside those of evolutionary theorists in science classrooms. People who are proponents of evolutionary theory are quick to offer a retort, usually suggesting that evolution is a proven fact; while denouncing the two aforementioned opposing views as belief systems which cannot be subjected to scientific analysis. Therefore, they suggest, such views are not appropriate subjects for science classrooms.…

DNA consists of two polynucleotide chains and these nucleotides consist of a deoxyribose sugar, a nitrogenous base and a phosphate group. The bases are Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine and Thymine. The sequence of these bases on DNA determines the structure of these proteins. A gene is a sequence of bases which codes for a single polypeptide. Chromosomes carry these genes and these genes come in specific forms called an allele which is how living organisms vary from each other. For example, humans are made up of an XY or XX chromosome. Females are XX and males are XY, however in some animals their sex is determined by the ZW sex-determination…
