I don’t enjoy reality shows. I mean I can see why other people like them, but to me they aren’t entertaining. I feel like American reality shows aim for comedy through people’s unbelievable idiocy and extreme mood swings. When I watch something like The Real House Wives of ¬¬___ , Jersey Shore, Keeping up with the Kardashians made me furious. All I saw was entitled, rich, and privileged men and women who think they are actually important act stupid and start drama for ratings. Honestly, I don’t think anyone in a reality show could ever experience a fulfilling and happy life. However, I see why people like it. People like seeing unscripted drama and idiocy. To most people it is entertainment and honestly I guess its entertaining. Reality shows have had a huge impact on cultures around the world. Everyone knows the name Kim Kardashian, or back in the day Snooki, shows how far reaching the influence of reality shows is on our everyday lives. I feel like both articles point to the fact that reality shows are only going to rise in popularity and will probably be the one thing to stay through all types of…

Personally, I don’t watch reality TV, but there are a lot of young viewers that do. Shows like Jersey Shore has a huge impact on especially my generation because at this age teens go to parties whether it’s freshman year of high school or “grade 12, nearly 70% of these teenagers have exhibited some form of alcohol misuse within the past year” (Ellickson). We are still young and want to have “fun”. These shows teach us wrong values of life, for example Jersey Shore is all about a couple of young adults drinking and partying almost every night. Getting into physical and verbal fights is a normal night for them, all the young teens and kids watching the show think that this is how life should be. Before you know they are doing exactly what that reality TV taught them. In addition without any supervision of adults this can really corrupt the younger generation to act as if they were in a reality TV show.…

In the year 1992 a new idea was introduced to America and it was called reality television. MTV produced a show called, The Real World that had seven strangers living in a house together and had everything they did filmed. After many failed attempts at trying to make this reality trend catch on, CBS launched Survivor, which pioneered the way for all reality shows to follow in the next decade. It was a show about people battling it out in two separate tribes to their wits end in the jungle and it spread like wildfire across America. Survivor premiere debuted to 28 million viewers and is still on today, a decade and 21 seasons later (McCraley). Reality…

One of the genres that is taking the reality hit the hardest is the sci-fi/supernatural genre. Shows in this category are th polar opposite of reality TV and are suffering for it. More networks are letting go of quality escapism and are instead churning out cookie cutter versions of reality. The sci-fi/supernatural genre is the purest form of escapism in programming. Advocates of reality shows say that these shows present true emotions and reactions of the participants in various situations and therefore, the audience connects with them. But in fact it is not so . The fact is that these are pre scripted, edited and manipulated to create sensational stuff. Mostly these shows have a bunch of young , good looking self publicists who are placed in unnatural situations , such as Big Boss house and Splitsvilla and then are provoked into behaving oddly. Only their most dramatic parts are shown on tv to create sensationalism.…
