Respond to the following in 200-300 words each.
1. While considering the different theories of motivation, describe your personal motivation for attending college. How much of your motivation is extrinsic, intrinsic, and neutral? From what you have read, how might you change your motivation? Which motivational theory applies most to your situation? Explain why.
My motivation for attending school is both extrinsic and intrinsic since the definition of both apply to what my goals are. The reason I say intrinsic is because I want to be educated I enjoy learning new things I look forward to my classes and the new things that I may learn to become better at whatever craft I apply myself to do. My other motivation is extrinsic since I have been working in the medical field for nearly ten years I have many outside influences advising me to advance my carrer and also achieve other aspects of the medical field. Currently I work for an orthopedic surgeon and I have enjoyed the many different doctors and specialties that I have come to learn and love. In this point in my life my motivation is intrinsic I enjoy learning new things and being able to apply it to my everyday life that’s why im continuing my education in medical management.
2. Describe two specific emotions you have experienced, one pleasant and one unpleasant. Select two theories of emotion and evaluate these emotions based on those theories. Which emotion best accounts for your emotional experiences? Why? I will say that basic emotions is something we experience on a day by day basis. Since we go through many different emotions daily I will have to say my pleaseant emotion will be happiness I wake up very happy and according to the study happiness suggests that the biological basis of happiness may include a “set point,” similar to the set point for hunger. Happiness tends to fluctuate around a fixed level. The second emotion I believe we all feel is fear and that can be very unpleaeseant according to the study. When confronted with a fear-provoking situation, the amygdala enables an ultrafast and unconscious response. Therefore alarming us of something that may happen or unpleaseant to see at the moment. I have experienced both emotions mostly happiness for the most part. However when it comes to any emotion we all may process it one way but I believe that each reaction is different depending on each person.
3. Select two theories of personality and describe your personality development using terms and ideas from each theory. Which theory do you relate with most? Why? Explain the components of the theory using specific behaviors and thought patterns you exhibit. I will have to say that my personality is Sanguine and Phlegmatic according to Eysenck the two dimesions of neuroticism stable vs. unstable and introversion-extroversion combine to form a variety of personality characterisctics. Stables tend to be emotionally calm and unreactive and unworried. The reason why I believe this is my personality is because I have a very carefree attitude about most things its good at times but can also have negative impact. I find that at times you have to not allow yourself to be pushed over just to try and keep the piece it can become exhausting and streesful at times. Basically the two theories are described as passive, sociable, careful, outgoing, thoughtful, talkative, peaceful, respective, controlled, easygoing, reliable, lively, eventempered, carefree, calm, and leadership. As a child and growing up my mom had always admired my laid back attitude she always told me that I will live a long life because I just refused to sweat the the small stuff I have always been very day by day and do things as I can and not make myself crazy if something was not completed.

My biggest motive to further my education is myself. According to Malcolm Knowles research there are four different motives that stimulate adults to learn. The “Practical Context” suggests that an adult is motivated to learn because the knowledge he/she gains will be put into practice whether it’s immediately or in the future. This person feels that the information will help him/her cope with daily situations with more ease. The “Experiential Context” this adult learner is someone that has become wise with age and has formed a solid foundation about what they know through personal experience. Happiness, the intangible emotion that we all desire. Is there proof that this emotion even exists? Eduardo Porter has written an essay titled “What Happiness Is”. In this essay Mr. Porter took the time to study the emotion of happiness that we all experience in life. He makes an attempt to question not only his reasons as to why he is happy, but to have the reader question their own sense of happiness as well. What is it that makes us feel joyful emotions, and how can vastly different experiences cause us to feel the same emotion that we call happiness? While searching for the proof of this feeling Eduardo Porter reflects upon his own personal experiences, professional studies and ultimately decides that his questions may never be answered. Porter states that, “most psychologists and economists who study happiness agree that what they prefer to call “subjective well-being” comprises three parts: satisfaction, meant to capture how people judge their lives measured up against their aspirations; positive feelings like joy; and the absence of negative feelings like anger.” This is an important analysis of how we form the idea of how joyful we actually are. Something in life that one person might be ashamed of could improve the level of cheerfulness for another person. For example, the thought of getting a tattoo might cause one individual to feel guilt while another individual might feel pleasure at the same thought.
