1. Discuss one of the major characters. How do they grow and change as a result of the conflict in the novel?
Robyn is a main character in the story because she grew and changed in ways that the other characters did not.

The small town of Wirrawee, and ‘Hell’. These settings impacted the story because the town is so remote that they couldn’t reach the help they needed like battle armour, weapons and clean food and water, and they didn’t have many options.
Wirrawee is your average small town, with a dentist a grocers, farms and houses. This impacted the story quite effectively because it was much easier to take over than a bigger city would have been. Also, because the population wasn’t so big, they were able to capture the majority of the population at once at the show grounds, and they were able to capture the other towns people quite easily.
‘Hell’ on the other hand is viewed as a ‘peaceful paradise’ for the group. Hell is a very remote spot in Taylor’s Stitch, that the group discovered in the beginning of the story. Since Hell was such a remote and hidden spot, it was the perfect spot for a ‘hideout’. The setting of Hell impacted the story because it was “beautiful though, quiet, shady, cool and damp.” (P31, chapter 3) though pictured to be fiery, evil and frightening, a lot like war.
