Conteaza cine spune primul!
“On one side of the portal, and rooted almost at the threshold, was a wild rose-bush, covered, in this month of June, with its delicate gems, which might be imagined to offer their fragrance and fragile beauty to the prisoner as he went in, and to the condemned criminal as he came forth to his doom, in token that the deep heart of Nature could pity and be kind to him." Chapter 1, pg. 46…
There is no escape from the horrors that were all around me. Dead bodies floated silently around while the living ones were face to face with death itself fighting until the very end. Others just lost hope and gave up. “How foolish to believe we are more powerful than the sea or the sky” (pg.341). Everything seemed so hopeless but there was something in me that didn’t give up, I wanted to see my dear Halinka so badly and cradle her in my arms, reassuring her that everything will be alright. But the truth is that I myself also need reassuring, but one thing I knew for sure was that I knew that the knight would be a savior.…
“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do” (Lee 149). In this passage Atticus Finch is explaining that courage isn’t just about being tough, it’s about persevering, giving up your fears, and never losing hope. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus expresses that courage is to never give up or finish what you started, which I can relate to from personal experience.…

Before the beginning of the book To Kill A Mockingbird, there is a quote by Charles Lamb: “Lawyers, I suppose,” he says, “were children once.” To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee was published in 1960 and has been widely read since then. It is the story of children growing up in the mid- Great Depression South and of the life lessons they learn. Through the events of the book, the characters Dill, Jem, and Scout show the theme of losing one’s childhood and innocence.…
Literature is often a key factor in understanding the meanings of certain philosophies. If philosophy were not explained to great extent in certain works of literature, man would have no means of understanding the crucial, insightful messages behind philosophy. One such philosophy, objectivism, is represented exceptionally in Ayn Rand's novel, The Fountainhead. The compelling dialogue between the characters of the book allows one to uncover Ayn Rand's own feelings towards objectivism. The connotations and the implications of several of the quotes within The Fountainhead accurately depict the essence of objectivism, as a way to live one's life properly. They also encourage the opposition of convention…

Shakespearean quotations such as "To be, or not to be" and "O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?" form some of literature's most celebrated lines and if asked to recite one of William Shakespeare's most famous quotes or quotations the majority of people would choose one of these. However, many expressions that we use every day originated in William Shakespeare's plays. We use the Bard's words all of the time in everyday speech, however, we are often totally unaware that we are 'borrowing' sayings from his work! William Shakespeare is attributed with writing 38 plays, Famous Shakespearean sonnets and 5 other poems and used about 21,000 different words. William Shakespeare is credited by the Oxford English Dictionary with the introduction of nearly 3,000 words into the language. It's no wonder that expressions from the works of William Shakespeare have become 'anonymous' parts of the English language.…
At the welcoming ceremony for new pupils, Mr. Nolan is introduced and explains the main principals of the academy, which are tradition, excellence, discipline and honour. Keating, the new English teacher, who has been a pupil there many years ago, gets introduced. He is inspired by values such as passion and love, which he integrates in his classes. His slogan is CARPE DIEM, which means “seize the day”, therefore he wants his pupils to think on their own and become individual persons. Some boys re-found the “Dead Poets Society”, which they discovered looking for information about Keating at the library. This is a secret club, where the boys meet in a cave to read and write poems to express their emotions. Because of these meetings, the boys’ lives change. Charlie Dalton gives himself the new name “Nuwanda” as a prank against the school. Todd Anderson loses his shyness. Knox Overstreet and a girl fall in love by talking about poems. Neil Perry finds his passion in acting, and he even gets to be the main character in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, which makes his father angry. The father therefore brings Neil home and wants him to go to a military school, which makes Neil so sad that he commits suicide Neil. Keating is held responsible for the suicide by Neil’ s parents and the school administration. He therefore gets fired. Shortly before…
On the other hand carpe diem influence the Keating pedagogy because it claims a different teaching where the students are not conditioned by a traditional education, it questions the harsh and rote practices of traditional schools. Keating becomes a teacher that transfers to students to a philosophy of life, a way of seeing and living. Through this philosophy can trigger concepts such as autonomy, right of free expression, freedom of thought, daily life, etc. We can also say that it teaches a sense of life, a sense that can only be addressed and accepted by those who live and no one else.…
