Race And Ethnic Groups Similarities

Racial groups describes a group that is set apart from the others because of physical differences that have taken on social significance. (Schaefer,229) An ethnic group is set apart from others primarily because of its national origin or distinctive cultural patterns.(Schaefer,229) Race refers to a person physical differences. For example; skin, bone structure, hair,and eye color. Ethnicity refers to cultural factors. Examples of ethnicity are,nationality, ancestry, and language. The comparison between the two is that they both involve people on how they look or practice a certain culture. Race and ethnic groups are some what similar and some what different. To see the similarity and the difference between the two is that you have to look
at it in both perspectives. Prejudice is a negative attitude toward an entire category of people, often an ethnic or racial minority. (Schaefer,232) Discrimination is the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or other arbitrary reasons.(Schaefer, 233) An example of prejudice is the holocaust. The holocaust is an example of prejudice because it just single out the group of jews. Another example of prejudice is after 9/11 anyone that looked middle eastern was looked at suspiciously. They could be a person that was born in the United States, but if they looked like they could be from the middle eastern they were looked at weird. An example of discrimination is in the workforce ,some people agree and some do not. In the workforce it could be between men and women or about race. Another example of discrimination is if a person has a disability. This is an example of discrimination because if you think about some people with disability get treated different. They don’t get treated in a bad way they just get treated different because of their disability.
