every single minority is going to steal, kill and try to jump you in an ally. There are good people out there and people are racially profiling them because of the bad ones. Most racial profiling happens with police officers. It mostly happens with them because of their assumptions of what different races will do. People have been killed and brutally harmed just because of their race group. There are so many police case where white police officers got away with murder because they called it self defense. They got away with murder because the person they kill was black or a minority. Racial profiling should stop because it's unfair to all people that are being accused and harmed because of their race. I've been racially profiled multiple times, but the one I can't forget is where a group of friends and I were accused of trespassing onto private property and then arrested and driven to the police station. The thing is that we all had backpacks, but they only made me open mine. Then they asked me if I had anything illegal on me. I was offended how they had to assume that I would be the one with illegal stuff. I realized that they only asked me because I was the only minority in the group. Maybe they weren't trying to racially profile me but they did in assuming that I would be the one that had stuff on me. I felt dehumanized because I didn't expect police officers in this neighborhood to be like that. The female and male officers were the same. They both only approached me instead of approaching the whole group. They made us sit on the sidewalk. That's the only thing they made us do as a group. There have been so many cases were police officers get away with murder and this is because they said it was self defense.
This is one of the cases where a white police officer gets away with murder and gets an easy punishment. In the case of Christian Taylor shooting, a 19 year old African American male was shot because a police officer assumed that this male had a gun because there was a bulge in his pocket. After Christian was shot they found out that the bulge was his wallet. This is an act of racial profiling because he acted upon his assumptions that he had a gun because he was black. And then to top it off just because he's white he's not convicted of a crime. This is murder and police brutality and his only punishment was getting fired. It sates in the article that the grand Jury won't take action about the shooting. ABC news states the out come of the case according to Brad millers attorney: “Today, the Tarrant County Grand Jury voted to take no action against former Arlington police officer Brad Miller from the August 2015 incident which resulted in the death of Christian Taylor” (Attorney Sharen Wilson). white. According to One America With Justice For All it clearly states the civil liberties and civil rights. According to this organization one of the civil liberties and civil rights is "Freedom from cruel and abusive treatment and punishment, including so-called 'alternative interrogation techniques', humiliating and degrading treatment, and torture as defined by international law"(OneAmerica). Isn't police brutality contradicting that right. Then the next civil right is about discrimination. Shouldn't police officers know what the civil rights are if they're going to protect this country. The civil right says "Freedom from discriminatory treatment based on race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or political beliefs"(OneAmerica). Those are two rights minority's aren't showed by police officers just because they're from a different race. Racial profiling is the way to dehumanize another person because of their race. It's the way to humiliate another human being because they're slightly darker. Racially profiling people usually comes from police officers that think that they are above the law. Racial profiling is different from stereotyping. Stereotyping is an everyday thing we're people assume some specific color of skin belongs in the same race. Example of someone stereotyping is "A clean-cut, African-American male walks into a gas station. He's well-dressed, polite, and calm; however, the gas station attendant is only concerned with his skin color. Simply because this man is black, the attendant follows him around the store, ensuring he doesn't try to steal anything"(Odyssey). Muslims have been targeted after the attack of 9/11: "Racial profiling is the targeting, ongoing since the September 11th attacks, of Arabs, Muslims and South Asians for detention on minor immigrant violations in the absence of any connection to the attacks on the World Trade Center or the Pentagon."(ACLU). Not all muslims are bad. September 11 happened because a group of muslims decided to attack this country and ever since that people have judge all muslims. That's not far to the people that are trying to make a better life. A group of people ruined the image of a whole race. This is not fare because everyone should be given a chance to prove what they're made of. People say that racial profiling is what keeps the minority's from doing anything bad.
Not all minority's want to do bad things though. Some immigrants come to this country to find a better life. But Donald Trump our new president doesn't see it that way. According to Donald Trump this is what he says about minority's “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bring crime. They’re rapists… And some, I assume, are good people.” (Donald trump). He has said horrific things about other races just because he thinks that whites are superior to minorities. He's reasoning behind his arguments are the bad things that specific race has done. Why doesn't he look at minorities differently. Most of the minority's that come to this country come to have a better life. Maybe he doesn't see that but he should open his eyes and see that without minorities all those jobs no one wants wouldn't be done without minorities. In conclusion over that stages of this project I've learned a lot about racial profiling. Maybe police officers do it because they have too but it's still irrational to kill another human being because of the mistakes others have done before them. Police officers shouldn't jump to conclusions that someone is armed just because they are African American. It's wrong to kill someone and then not be punished. Police
officers should start respecting the civil rights for everyone not just for whites.
