Racial Slurs Should Be Illegal Essay

Words cannot break my bones but stick and bones can. Derogatory terms like nigger, chinks, spics, and fagots should be ban or used. Racial slurs like niggers, chinks, spics, and fagots should be ban. Some African Americans believe that the word nigger should ban and others think that the word should be used. Many people believe that the derogatory words mean more than it seems like nigger can be traced back to slavery. Some African Americans believe that nigger means something different now and it not offensive. People do not have the right to call an ethnic group a racial slur when they know that the word would offend
them. Racial slurs offend and discourage a person’s pride of his/her ethnicity. An ethnic group has the only rights to use their derogatory terms. Racial slurs bring an ethnic group past pain and old wounds that their race went through.

A racial slur would not be harsh when a person of the same racial group is saying it. Some African Americans used the word nigger because nigger is not offence when an African American say it to another. When a white person calls a black person nigger, the black person usually gets offend. There are laws made that these racial slurs should not be used. The Gay/Lesbian communities do not like people calling them fagots because it makes them feel uncomfortable of being gay. If people know that, a word is offensive they have no right to say it. A person’s pride is very important and it should not be taken away from
him.

African Americans are very proud to be African Americans and the word nigger is said it influence their view of been African Americans. African Americans do not like the word nigger being used because it means more than it seem. When a person from a different ethnic group calls a black person a nigger the black person pride is broken. This leads to the black person getting mad and taking violence actions. African Americans take pride in their heritage seriously and when someone disrespects their heritage, they get angry. Some people think that nigger does not hurt African American heritage and those people are wrong because it does. Racial slur make an ethic group think that they are being disrespected. That is why when a certain racial slur is said to a certain racial group the people are mad and frustrated. A bad old memory brings back a person’s anger and frustration they had a long time ago.

Nigger reminds African Americans of slavery and the hard years they went through. Slavery was a period when African Americans were captured from Africa and brought to America to become slaves. Slavery was hard on African Americans because they had no freedom and life was just horrible. African Americans do not like to be remember slavery and when nigger is said it brings them the taught of slavery. Racial words insult ethnic groups and it reminds them of what the majority group did to them in the past. Racial slurs remind minorities like Asian Americans of their struggles and their civil rights
movement.

People should not say derogatory words when they know it would hurt the person feelings deeply. Laws have been made that Derogatory terms are not allow to be used in public and if broken the person would face fines and possibly jail time.
