What’s in a Name is a story about a working black man that gets treated like everyone else of his race. In the story there is a little boy whose name we do not know, but this boy’s father is a hardworking man. He slaves away at his jobs so that his kids can have new clothes on their bodies and warm food on the table every night. This so called man “George” took his little boy into a drug store where they got treated a little better than other colored people. “George” got to eat with actual plates and real silverware. Something that the other colored people could only dream about. The owner of this drug store, Mr. Wilson, called this little boy’s father, George. The little boy spoke up immediately and questioned his father about why Mr. Wilson had called him George. He ought to know his real name. These two Americans get treated differently than anyone one else because of the color of their skin and their heritage. People looked upon them as a single race instead of an individual person. They have the struggle of changing their name to an American name just to fit into our society. We are asking them to camouflage themselves and transform to our morals and values. It is sad that that is what it has come down to, that we are uncapiable of treating everyone alike.
