English Essay Racism, stereotypes and police brutality is a world crisis that happens everyday. It is killing society and causing people to be inhumane. In the book “All American Boys” by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely the book tells about a boy named Rashad who is a senior in high school and is falsely accused of stealing and resistance of arrest. The police officer didn’t even bother to ask what the situation was about and he judged Rashad just by his color and starting beating Rashad into the concrete even though he was falsely accused of stealing a bag of chips. It happens all around the world in everyday life and it is killing society and affecting a lot of people. According to humanrights.gov, the reason why people are racist is because when we are frustrated and stressed we tend to blame someone. In All American Boys Spoony says “Because racism was alive and real as shit. It was everywhere and all mixed up in everything, and the only people who said it wasn’t, and the only people who said, “Don’t talk about it” were white. Well, stop lying. That’s what I wanted to tell those people. Stop lying. Stop denying. That’s why I was marching. Nothing was going to change unless we did something about it.” This quotes shows how mad Spoony is and comes to realize the cold hard world and how he’s not going to allow being treated like animals. This shows how protest and riots just keep starting again and again. The people are getting angry because of the way they are being treated just because of how they look.Another good reason why All American Boys should be read in class is the relatability of the real world conflicts/social issues that happen all the time such as …show more content…
In the book All American Boys, stereotypes can cause someone to get killed. Towards the end of the book Rashad is in a riot/protest and it reads names of black people that were killed by white cops that decided to kill them based on what they looked like. “Nobody says the words anymore, but somehow the violence still remains. If I didn’t want the violence to remain, I had to do a hell of a lot more than just say the right things and not say the wrong things.” This quote says that no matter what, stereotypes and racism will always be a big part of violence. It’s saying that people didn’t have to talk to hate each other and cause violence. They just judged each other from looks and didn’t like each other and that’s why stereotypes cause violence. Stereotypes are one of the worst things of this world and cause a lot of hate towards each other just based off of
