Whatever your opinion is on the use of this novel in today’s education system there can be no denying the fact that even today, “racism remains endemic in our society” (Kaye 14). While The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn portrays the reality of a society in one chosen time frame it is not the same as the reality of today's society. Mark Twain portrays a society in which the majority of the inhabitants would be strongly considered obvious and outright racists by people of today’s society. However, today, it resides in a much more grey area. In today’s society not all prejudice and racism is outright, straight forward or cut and dry. Many examples would be overlooked by the average person , whom most likely is not very knowledgable on the topic and does not know what to look for. Whether it is through the justice system, the schooling system, industries, organizations, communities or even everyday recurring racist expressions, stereotypes or assumptions spewing into our society through media, entertainment and television.
