submission to Allah. The word Muslim is an adjective derived from the noun Islam, and implies one who has peace within himself from his submission to Allah”(What is Islam) Even by Muslim standards Islam is not about peace; it is about peace through submission. Islam is not a religion of peace because the Qur’an and other Muslim manuscripts teach violence, not all Muslims are genuine Muslims, and Muhammad killed thousands of people.
Islam is not a religion of peace because the Qur’an and other Muslim manuscripts teach violence. According to a writer for the Boston Globe, “Terrorist attacks are simply manifestations of the ideology, the symptoms of the threat, not the threat itself.”(Bolton) The threat of terrorist attacks are the principles upon which the ones who commit these atrocious acts. According to Jordan Schachtel writer for Muslim Statistics, A new poll came out from Al Jazeera that 81% of those Muslims that voted (about 38,000) agreed that terrorist groups are condoned in their eyes.(Schachtel) There are many other polls done in the middle east and other places that only confirm this report. For instance half of the Muslims in Britain think that ISIS/ISIL is right in their beliefs, according to CARM who gives statistics and polls about religions.(Slick) Why do so many Muslims think that what these terrorist groups are doing is ok? Their religion, and their principles of their religion. Islam follows a book called the Qur’an. According to Discover Islam, “The Qur'an is the principle source of every Muslim's faith and practice.” (Discover Islam) The Qur’an says,”And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.”(2:191) There are other verses such as this: “Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.”(2:216) Several other Verses such as in the fourth chapter of the Qur’an: “Therefore let those fight in the way of Allah, who sell this world's life for the hereafter; and whoever fights in the way of Allah, then be he slain or be he victorious, We shall grant him a mighty reward.”(4:74) This verse, in particular, is an interesting one. Basically, it says that you can do anything to kill people just as long as you do it for Allah, and you will be forgiven. Just like in the Surat there are verses about violence: “Those who believe and make hijra and do jihad in the Way of Allah can expect Allah’s mercy. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” Even The Council on Foreign Affairs agrees stating, “Ayaan Hirsi Ali is correct that darker passages of Islamic Scripture endorse violence and prescribe harsh punishments for moral or theological infractions. And she is right that in many Muslim countries, too many citizens still think it is a good idea to kill people for apostasy, stone them for adultery, and beat women for disobedience just because Scripture says so.” (Mccants) There are alot of other references that it would take many pages to put down in this essay.
Islam is not a religion of peace because not all Muslims are genuine Muslims.
There are two different ‘denominations’ in Islam; Sunni and Shiite. One of the main points that distinguish Shiite from Sunni is who they think are the leaders of all the Muslims. According to History News Network, “The Sunni branch believes that the first four caliphs--Mohammed's successors--rightfully took his place as the leaders of Muslims. They recognize the heirs of the four caliphs as legitimate religious leaders. These heirs ruled continuously in the Arab world until the break-up of the Ottoman Empire following the end of the First World War.”(What is the difference…) In contrast, according to Compelling Truth, “Shia Muslims followed Ali, the son-in-law of Muhammad, as the rightful successor of Islam. While this movement has developed into many sub-groups, Shia Muslims emphasize the special spiritual and political leadership of imams (Muslim religious leaders) to Muslim nations.”(What are the differences..) Another very distinguishable point in between their viewpoints are the different groups that accompany these branches. Most terrorist groups such as ISIS, IJU, Boko Haram, Al Qaeda, and many more. These Sunni groups follow their books a lot more closely than their counterparts: the Shiite. The Shiite Muslim group is a calm group that doesn’t want to fight people. Even though they have some very questionable holidays such as the day of Ashura. A lot of Muslims commemorate this day by gashing their heads with a knife or whipping themselves with knives attached to
chains.
