Radiography Personal Statement

Radiography is a health sector that has not only revolutionised medical diagnosis but has also developed significantly within the digital era. Studying radiography at degree level will allow me to merge my scientific knowledge with my interest in patient care in order to aid accurate diagnosis of healthcare problems and contribute to the wellbeing of patients. A career within the NHS and health sector has been my passion for a long time and the excitement of being within a challenging and dynamic environment drives me to pursue a career in radiography. Having spoken to a practicing radiographer at Broomfield hospital, I understand that a radiographer has to be able to adapt to new technological advances and to be dedicated and motivated to carry out complex scans to find a solution.
By observing x-rays of teeth at 2 dental practices I have become familiar with the procedure and the safety precautions that need to be taken. I have also become familiar with analysing dental x-rays and am keen to learn more about body scans. During my dental work experience, dentists showed me the features of dental x-rays showing me the importance of radiology in many different areas of healthcare. I am curious to explore more about imaging and I am taking an online course entitled ‘Ultrasound Imaging: What Is Inside?’ which examines the uses and technology of ultrasound for medical purposes. To develop my knowledge further, I have chosen: “To what extent has the development of CT/MRI/PET scans caused a reduction in the number of cancer patients? “as a title for my EPQ. I am looking to research how the improvement of medical scans has helped to detect cancer earlier and reduce the number of people who are terminally ill. This will improve my research skills, preparing me for university and writing reports as a
