Radiology Personal Statement
There was something about becoming a medical specialist that intrigues me. As a child, I developed a keen interest in the internal workings of the human body. Radiology was my first preference as a major. Gaining knowledge about where it all began, having access to view the human body and the way it functions greatly appeals to me. Joining the medical field will allow me to further observe these ideas.
In addition, as a student going to Kilgore College it has truly humbled me more than ever, and I also learned to take my time and accept the fact if it is meant for me than it will work out to my advantage. Over the years I came across many awesome individuals that I can now call my friends. I worked with a lady by the name of Tracie Kruse and she allowed me to stand with her in her sonography office to observe the development of a child’s growth. It was amazing I learned so much from this experience. In the few months that I was with

I am interested in pursing the major I chose above because I have developed a passion for medicine through my own health obstacles. I suffer from Chronic Migraines, which has caused me to spend a great deal of my life in doctor's offices. Positive experiences with my doctors lead to me idolizing them as a young child; so much so that I memorized the every bone in the body at the age of five. This passion stayed alive and well as I grew older, however my admiration began to transition from the doctors themselves to the subject. This all stemmed from my own health; I wanted to know exactly what was happening with my body and why. Now, I want to dedicate my life to the subject and possibly be the doctor that inspires someone to discover their…

There are two instances in my life that has inspired me to gain interest in medicine. My grandmother when I was around the age of twelve received double bypass surgery and I fell in love with the physician who took care of her. The physician was a middle aged woman who was one of the kindest person I have ever met, and she gave us the news of how everything went fine during surgery. She also gave us great confidence in how my grandmother would return to normal soon. The look on my parents and aunts face when she gave the news gave me goosebumps and to this day I feel the same goosebumps when I think about this. I just wanted to one day be in a position to deliver good news to a family and to see that “look” of relief on their faces. Another…

I understand the importance of precise language, respect the value of different medical fields, and look forward to working as part of a team that provides excellent patient care. Growing up in a household where new ideas were regularly discussed and then constantly challenged to be improved has ingrained a sense of innovation in me. I love technology and enjoy learning new skills, so radiology is a natural fit. It’s unprecedented and rapid advancement as a result of improved imaging and digitalization is what attracted me to this field, and I believe an equally compelling future awaits. In this regard, my programming expertise and interest in technology will be an asset. By having firsthand experience with the devastating consequences of a delayed diagnosis in my family, being in a position to contribute to computer learning models and imaging techniques that can improve healthcare outcomes is personally important. I look forward to carrying on this field’s tradition of innovation, and believe my enthusiasm for cutting edge techniques will ensure that I stay up to date in a continually changing medical landscape. There where three pioneers in the United States, John Wild a surgeon, George Ludwig an internist, and Douglas Howry a radiologist. Douglas Howry had the greatest influence on the other pioneers in radiology. In the late 1940’s he left a formal residency program at Denver Veterans Administration Hospital to devote most of his time on ultrasound research. Working in his basement with engineers William Roderick Bliss and George Pasokony, Howry pursued his goal of using ultrasound to produce accurate anatomic pictures of soft-tissue structures.
