Radisson Hotel
Introduction
Radisson hotels were in 1938 founded in by Curtis L. Carlson. The majority of Radisson branded hotels are located in the United States. The company's headquarters is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the first Radisson Hotel was built. This city is also headquarters to the parent company, Carlson Companies. Carlson Companies, Inc. is one of America’s largest privately owned corporations with total system sales of $13.4 billion in 1996 and $20 billion in
1997. Carlson Companies employs about 130,000 people worldwide, including those who work in franchised and managed operations. There are 359 Radisson Hotels in the United States. Radisson includes more than 400 locations in 72 countries. It is part of Carlson Hotels Worldwide, a leading global hotel company with more than 1,050 locations in 76 countries under the brands of Regent Hotels & Resorts; Radisson Hotels & Resorts. Other Carlson Hospitality Worldwide operations include Regent Worldwide Hotel Radisson Seven Seas Cruises, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson, T.G.I. Friday's, Italianni's, Friday's American Bar, Friday's Front Row Sports Grill, and the Carlson Hospitality Worldwide Procurement Division (Services, n.d, para 3&4)
By 1997, Radisson's “growth at any cost” strategy left Radisson with a significant diversity in hotel quality and an “unfocused” brand image. Alignment with hotel owners (more than hotel guests) also seemed to cause Radisson's customer service and hotel management expertise to atrophy. In 1997 and 1998, Mr. Brian Stage, Radisson's President, and Ms. Maureen O'Hanlon, Radisson's Executive Vice President, took several initiatives to drive the organization towards becoming a more customer-focused brand. In their words, they “re-discovered that their primary customers should be the guests -- not the owners.”

In order to deal with ways to sustain Wyndham’s competitive advantage built by the ByRequest initiative, we first need to get acquainted with its business values; Wyndham’s ByRequest program created a comfortable and memorable upscale guest experience and shaped recognition in the industry from a customer service standpoint. Being still a relatively new program, the company was limiting its focus on analysis and thus conducted limited historical study and no collection of a typical demographic data like age, income etc. But while its impact on revenues was still small, it was a success in defining Wyndham’s brand. In order to keep and even extend this current competitive advantage over time, the company needs to leverage its growing membership base and better utilize customer service. The hotel guest of the future will be far savvier and discerning; with the world at his feet and a world of information at his fingertips, the challenge for hotels to sustain connections with guests will only increase. Wyndham is an example to a company where IT is tightly intertwined with business operations and strategy. The adoption of the ByRequest program proved recognition for the dual role of IT in creating operating efficiencies while also driving business insight, innovation, and proprietary advantage. But, the way to achieve and also sustain the business value mentioned above will be based on a combination of management capabilities, assets, expertise and technology. Technology itself usually cannot provide the required competitive advantage over time given the fact it can be replicated easily. Using even the simplest and cheapest form of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software mechanisms will help in attracting and keeping customers. Many of these CRM packages have facilities that help to acquire, retain and grow profitable customers and also maintain healthy, measurable business success. They help to monitor real-time results of marketing campaigns and track…

Rosewood Hotels currently has 12 iconic luxury hotels worldwide with a total of 1,513 room capacity. Each property thrives on its own name and the corporate brand name, Rosewood, has been muted to preserve the distinctiveness of each individually branded hotel. Rosewood faces competition from corporate branded giants e.g. Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons etc who follow “canned and cookie cutter” approach of maintaining a consistency across all hotels. Rosewood’s management believed that the individual property branding strategy would help them differentiate from these corporate giants. However, in the wake of fierce competition in the luxury hotel industry, CEO of Rosewood, John Scott and VP of sales and marketing, Robert Boulogne are considering incorporation of Rosewood as a brand in name of each hotel and use Rosewood as the house of brand in all of their advertising campaigns.…
