Rainsford In The Most Dangerous Game By Richard Connell
In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, the climax is when Rainsford, the main character, is hiding from the dogs at night and jumps into the sea. This is the climax because it's the part that decides if Rainsford will survive or not. In “The Most Dangerous Game,” the book shows how the moment Rainsford is being hunted by the dogs is the climax when it says, “His pursuers had stopped.but the hope that was in Rainsford’s brain when he climbed died long ago, for he saw in the shallow valley that General Zaroff was still on his feet” (Connell 35). Rainsford was losing all of his hope as he saw that General Zaroff was still going and still looking for him, which makes the reader wonder if Rainsford will give up or not.

“The Most Dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell, contains multiple types of conflict, man vs. man, man vs. nature, and man vs. self. Firstly, conflict can be seen in the story in the form of man vs. man. According to the author on page 11, General Zaroff states “‘Tonight,’ said the general, ‘we will hunt-- you and I.’” This would indicate man vs. man conflict, as General Zaroff is informing the main character, Rainsford, that he will be hunted down by him. In the story, Connell also writes of man vs…

Some say there hunters, some are not. “... Some he makes, some beggars. Me he made a hunter”(Connell, Pg 223). I chose this quote because he could be one but not. He thinks he is the best hunter, but what is he's not. Rainford could be the best, but not be until they will never know if they're good or not. Who is…
