Raise The Driving Age To 18 Essay

Should they raise the legal driving age to 18? I don’t think the legal driving age should be raised to 18. The reason I feel this way is, there are many flaws in the system and teens should not be stereotyped. There is no way to prove that the child drove the hours required by the department of transportation in order for the instructor to sign off on student’s course completion. The child is just as much fault as the parent(s) who filled it out. The child either didn’t feel like driving so they had the parent just filled out the driving log anyway or the parent didn't want to deal with all the little heart attacks their child would give them and just filled it out anyway. Another reason I don’t think they should raise the legal driving age to 18 is, teens are stereotyped too much. If someone hears of a teen driver wrecking the first thing they say is “They should’ve been paying attention”. In some cases it’s not the teens fault.

Driving isn’t just about whether or not you’re paying attention. Driving is also monitoring the other people you share the road with. Just because you’re doing everything right doesn't mean that everyone else is. People need to understand that just because
By the age of 18, most students are beginning their first year of college. These students will most likely be preparing to go to college. Now, if the driving age is raised to 18, you will have tons more “inexperienced” drivers traveling great distances to go to school. Some will be driving on the interstate at 70 mph.
