In this play, the Younger family is challenged to make ends meet and are fighting for a better life for themselves but end up getting taken advantage of because of the color of their skin. We chose this scene because not only is it a historical concept, it still has the relevance in regards to the present time as well. Although it was written in the 1950’s, there are still some topics in the play that are still taking place now. In order to raise awareness to this fact we wanted to present this scene. Racism and discrimination is very much so still alive and it's not okay. Although things have gotten much better there are still some who feel they're better than others because of the color of their skin. This play and several others of Lorraine Hansberry plays show that even through all this hatred and negativity, we as African American can and will get through it because we know our worth and we're more than what they think we have to
