Ralph Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis

In life a successful leader needs to decide to do what is needed for the situation instead of what the people want at that time. Leader’s who decide to do what is needed of the situation tend to have most success. Through the book Lord Of The Flies by William Golding there is a conflict between leader’s who do what is right against doing what the people want. At the beginning Ralph is elected as the leader of the island. Right away he does what he thinks is a necessity on the island,set up a fire to get rescued and build shelter to be safe shelter. Jack does what he and the boys want and what others may think is fun, hunting. On the island there is a constant fear of “The beast” and Jack and Ralph have different ways of approaching the dilemma. Jack does what the the boys want and think is more important which is to hunt and kill the beast and Ralph provides a solution that will make no encounter with the beast so there is nothing to worry about.
Ralph's first order of business is to be saved and feels his dad will do it because his "[father is] in the navy. He said there aren't any unknown islands left.(37). The only idea on Ralph's mind is being rescued and doesn't want to let the fact go that his dad is going to find them. For mostly the whole book he keeps with his thoughts of being rescued even when Jack and the majority of the boys “want meat” (54) more than anything else and believes that meat is the most important priority on the island right now. Both of the kids have a solid idea and different priorities for the future of the island but Jack does what the kids want and Ralph does what they
