This particular aphorism fits into my life in more ways than one, especially when I am on the hockey rink, as I try to better myself and those around me with new ideas, even though I may be misunderstood at the start. This past summer, each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday morning, I would skate at 8 in the morning with a bunch of my friends, all in the hopes of getting better for the upcoming high school hockey season. Before every session, my brother Michael and I would go on early and just shoot pucks around before anyone else came on the ice, so we could get some extra practice in. One particular morning, we were shooting pucks and I noticed that if he moved his bottom hand up his stick a little more, and had a more vertical release when shooting the puck, his release would be quicker, making his shot faster and more accurate. He immediately dismissed my comments, as he misunderstood me and though that they would not help him, I went on to show him myself that these small adjustments contributed to shot speed and accuracy. Convincing him to finally give it a try, he took his first shot and I have never seen him shoot a puck faster, we were both blown away.
