This video affects me more with emotional things than anything I think. As I started to watch the video I was trying to figure out what the parents were thinking by placing those children in those situations. This issue is a very important issue and I don’t think that it gets near the attention that it deserves. There is so much attention placed on so many things in this world but yet the situation of children and their parents who are living on the street get swept under the rug. The laws and legal systems don’t seem to do anything about but want to complain about the crimes and how wild these teenagers end up being. The legal systems don’t seem to realize how living homeless and moving place to place actually affects the parents and the children. It is a parents right to raise their children how they want but at the same time there should be limitations on these thing to ensure children basic needs are met to a certain extent. However the parents have a choice to live like that but the children they bring into this world don’t have a choice and they suffer the consequences of being homeless just because they were born and their parent made a choice to live like this because they don’t want to pay rent or taxes and this is totally unacceptable. In the minds of the parents of these children they are wanting to raise their children a certain way and that is understandable but at the same time the parents do not realize the psychological problems that it can have on the children. The parents of these children were being careless as early as when they got pregnant with the children. By living a life like this there is no prenatal care to make sure mom and baby are healthy. By living homeless the parents are exposing the unborn baby along with the children that have already been born to so many diseases among other things not to mention once a baby is born there are no doctor visits for vaccines or to check to see if the baby is on

    The video was a great visual on understanding more into this population.Being homeless can mean foodless, cloths less, and sometimes friends or family less for many people. Homelessness in a way is a put down for many. It stops them from being able to accomplish their goals and ambitions. Some people are in a daily struggle of survival that it becomes their only struggle. In the video Sammy talks about just being able to survive, taking life day by day. Adam talks about going to complete more of his schooling and getting a BA. Keegan looks for love. They all have struggles and ambitions. I think that the interview shows us a good view point on how this population lives. I’m proud of these student being able to interview people and learn more into the homeless population. I have been in that place before. Not having a home is a big thing. Just knowing you don’t have anywhere you can rest your head at night and relax. Most people don’t understand that being homeless can sometimes mean more than just “not having a home”. Often times this means not having anything to eat.     Lost Angels: Skid Row Is My Home is an investigative documentary that gives us the untold story of the homeless and disadvantaged living on Skid Row. Skid Row is a name given to fifty blocks radius in Downtown Los Angeles whose residents tends to have a lower income or are homeless. Many people view the homeless as being dirty, poor and even lazy; it is very rare that we wonder why how they came to be in such a predicament. For many on Skid Row their battles are mental illness and grave poverty. The documentary introduces us to eight different but very similar individuals living on Skid Row; they tell us their very different stories and then explain their similar experiences living on Skid Row. We meet a transgender Caucasian male, an African- American mother of three, an old Caucasian female and her African American “fiancé”, they all suffer from mental illness in one form or the other and there is even an ex Olympian who battled through substance abuse. The only difference between these people and us are certain circumstances and situations.     My friends and I left the restaurant, laughing. It was getting dark and the city was beautifully lit. We smiled and chatted as we walked through downtown.     Homeless people often have been through some of the worst hardships a person can endure. Abuse is so prevalent with homeless single mothered families that around 92% of homeless mothers were either sexually or physically abused (greendoors.org). According to studies one out of every four homeless mothers are homeless as a result as a violent act from a previous lover or partner. Although women are the main abuse victim, men actually have been found to be the prey of an abusive relationship that results in homelessness. However, violence doesn’t only occur with the mothers of the families. Not only are women usually the one being abused around 85% of homeless families are headed by a woman (greendoors.org). Around 83% of homeless children will have witnessed a severe violent event by the age of twelve (NSCAHH). Not only does this violent event usually leave one parent severely injured, it leaves the other to move out and often live on the street, thus becoming homeless. It may not be the child’s first choice but often the kids are forced to move to the street with the parent leaving the house. This extreme violence will often leave the child traumatized and he or she will adapt violent habits and will be the same way with their family to come (usich.gov).
