Randomness And Symbols In The Fate Of Ten

The main theme of The Fate of Ten is human nature. The idea of human nature is that we cannot accept what we cannot control. One motif is the question on what is the line that we stop at in our production. If you study the Mogadorian race you start to realize that they are extremely similar to parts of the human race. They destroyed their home planet due to their poor living habits and are now on the search for a new one. Our human race is slowly destroying our own planet and the number one solution we have is to find a new planet rather than fixing our current one. Another minor theme is randomness. According to Wikipedia, “Randomness is the lack of pattern or predictability in events. A random sequence of events, symbols, or steps has no order and does not follow an intelligible pattern or combination” (Wikipedia).
This idea of randomness and lack of control is the driving force of the antagonist Setrákus Ra and many humans. As a young kid, he never understood the logic of some having legacies and some not. Pittacus Lore wants to convey the message that we cannot control circumstances. He reveals this theme through dialogue with Setrákus Ra, when he states, “'Why do we have legacies while she doesn't? It doesn't seem fair, that some should be stuck being so... normal'” (Lore 312). This is relevant to our modern day culture. We attempt to eliminate the idea of randomness. The way we are born into society limits us in what we will be able to accomplish.
