LAST LECTURE SUMMARY:

Randy Pausch, a remarkable professor in Carnegie Mellon, delivered his last lecture and book entitled "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" in 2007. Because he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he was dying but he tried to leave what he wanted to educate his children in the future. After recalling his memory, he found that all meaningful things in his life were related to his childhood dreams. Thus, he talked about his dreams, family, and lessons from daily life. He also gave advice on how to live. As a dying man, he stayed optimistic. His book was like a record of details in his lecture, and both of them cause huge impact worldwide. THE LAST LECTURE

After growing up gradually, people will assess how many dreams they can fulfill in the future. That is the process of connecting dreams and reality. People need to differentiate which dreams can be put into practice to achieve, and which ones are too hard to fulfill. As for Randy, he realized whether the obstacles could be broken or not, and tried his best to fulfill his

It’s in our sick and dying bed that we are sadly given no other task but to evaluate all our years of living. The body no longer full of vigor nor fight, the heart heavy form sorrows past; the footsteps of death nocking at the door serve as an earnest call to evaluate and make peace with all we did in life. Suddenly, its time to review the many chronicles that compose our life story. As I look back on my life I am overwhelmed with grief. I grieve not for missed opportunities, God knows I seized every opportune moment. I grieve for the misjudgment of my ambitious endeavors, which will be forever erroneously highlighted and remain an eternal blemish upon my legacy.…

Jimmy boy slowly became the teacher and I the pupil. Sadly enough, Jimmy boy died a tragic and untimely death. Even though Jimmy boy is no longer with us, his divine thoughts made me ultimately abandon my own ‘American Dream’ and return to my country with a purpose of working for the poor. I am yet to fulfill my ambition (rather his dream), but yes I can say with some comfort that I have done quite a bit since the time I left the…

You must have the strong will to “want” to accomplish whatever goal you set for yourself. For example, when I was playing the game of chicken and always lost in the beginning, this would be the obstacle that stood in front of me, but I overcame this by not saving any strokes to get back. I remember a time when I was saying, “You want to know how I did it? This is how I did it, Anton: I never saved anything for the swim back.” Another example of how I overcame my obstacles is obvious. My biggest obstacle that I faced was when the company Gattaca only allowed “pure breeds,” if you will, to be co-workers and be able to go up to space, which was my dream. I surpassed that rule by impersonating my good friend Jerome. A quote he said to me once was, “I got the better end of the deal. I only lent you my body - you lent me your dream.” Jerome was immobilized from waist down when he was hit by the bus, which let me impersonate him and fulfilling my dreams of going to space. All my hard work is finally paying off. My big goal that I have been longing to achieve is in sight. Not many people get to live my dream, but it took a lot of planning and thought for me to sneak my way into Gattaca. My next point will be my final thought about human…

Only a scare amount of people are destined to be the President of the United States, to be astronauts, to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, or to find a cure for a terminal disease. All of us are capable of significant accomplishments and achievements throughout each of our lives. As Mother Teresa or St. Teresa of Calcutta states this quote, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love,” it signifies extreme importance through society in which people accomplish things rather large or small; love is always present during the accomplishments not matter the size of the achievement. Not everyone is exposed, or afforded, the opportunity to do great things; whether fame, money, or motivation tend to get in the…
