Jennifer Copley argues that listening to rap music does not make teens violent. She was saying that studies have been conducted to assess the effect of listening to rap on teens. The findings are mixed, but overall they suggest the listening to rap does not cause aggressive behaviour. She was saying between 1979 and 1997 the percentage of rap songs with violent lyrics increased steadily from 27% to 60% . she was also saying that most of the violent lyrics were …show more content…
focused on women and their life growing up in the streets. Another point she was trying to get across was research found that a preference for rap is connected with higher rates of drug and alcohol use, arrest, but these problems often begin before young people start listening to rap. I agree that listening to rap music does not make teens violent, a point that need emphasizing since so many people believe that rap music is bad for your children, that it will crup the way your child will evolve, don’t let them listen to it, but guess what, you're wrong not all rap is bad.
Matthew Robinson argues that there is a link between violent lyrics and violent behavior.
He was saying studies show that certain kinds of music tend to feature and even promote violence, especially in children and adolescents. He also said “of course, rap music gets much of the blame. For example, the prevention research center of the pacific institute for research and evaluation in berkeley, calif, suggests young people who listen to rap and hip-hop more likely to abuse alcohol and commit violent acts.” in other words, Matthew Robinson believes that people that listen to rap music are stereotypes, or that rap is bad all people listen to it abuse alcohol and commit violent acts. Although I agree with Matthew Robinson to a point, I cannot accept his overall conclusion that there is a link between violent lyrics and violent behavior because I listen to rap music I don't kill people, I don't beat women, I don't abuse alcohol or
weed.
My viewpoint as Zion Peake, I agree with Mrs. Jennifer Copley as she stated listening to rap music does not make teens violent. Because i’ve been raised listening to rap music on both sides of my family, and you don't see me on the new for killing anyone, or abusing alcohol or any type of drugs. I feel like it's not rap music that influences people's actions if feel like it's the lyrics in the music. It's not just rap, it's all music that can influence people's actions. Cause when i'm in a bad place I put in my headphones and listen to rap cause it makes me feel better. Those are most of the reason why I think that rap music isn't bad.My mom is the perfect example, when she walks by my room and here's the music, she alway walks in and give me a speech about how it’s bad for me and how I should be listening to more gospel, but what my mom doesn't understand is that I'm still a good child I don't make decisions that could hurt me or the people around me, if anything I feel like rap music is a safe haven for me it’s where i go when i'm going through a rough time.
To conclude, Jennifer Copley said that listening to rap music does not make teens and young adults violent. I really agreed with what Mrs. Copley was saying because people that don't listen to rap music make people who do stereotypes, I say this because most people like Mr. Robinson think that it make you act a certain way or it makes you go about thing a different way but guess what their wrong. Do you think it's bad, do you feel like rap music is bad for us, feel free to speak your mind I will listen but that does not mean i’m going to agree with you.
