Ultimately, Raquel elects to have the child.
In another exhibition of courage, Raquel made the mature decision to relinquish the role of Rocket to her friend, Darnice, until the end of her pregnancy. What makes this act so courageous is the fact that Raquel had to retract her considerable ego in order to give up the control of the power belt, which gives Rocket her ability to generate force fields. The recognition that Raquel was no longer fit for crime fighting duty is an important understanding, because it shows Rocket as a human being, subject to human frailties and limitations; superheroes are seemingly able to overcome every challenge or affliction facing them, often without tremendous effort. While there are copious examples of superheroes overcoming challenges, seldom are they confronted with the prospect of someone else fulfilling their responsibilities, and even more rarely are those superheroes relinquishing their abilities of their own volition.
