In the Old Testament, of the Holy Bible, the first poetic book titled “Book of Job”, Job is tested by Satan. Job was a man with a blessed and fortunate life filled with riches. Job had children, a home, land, and animals. Satan told God that Job was only faithful to him because of everything that he had provided Job with, “But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.” (Book of Job pg.1). Nonetheless, God told Satan that Job would never go against him regardless of what he was put through. As a result, Satan went ahead and wiped out all of Jobs’ luxuries. When Satan did this he believed that all the suffering Job was put through would cause him to betray God. In spite of Jobs misfortune, he still solemnly believed in God and he never betrayed him. Christians believe that “Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people” (Book of Matthew 4:23). In the Christian's point of view everyone’s purpose is to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and help those in need of salvation. Jesus also had to deal with suffering, in the manner of Antigone and Prometheus, but he did it to help those that sinned and guide his followers to God.
