Rattlesnake Vs Cobra
During “Snake Week,” we read many stories that talked about different snakes. Such snakes are the rattlesnakes and the cobra. We read, “A Running Brook of Horror” by Daniel Mannix, “How to Recognize Venomous Snakes in North America,” which was a manual and, “Rattlesnake Hunt,” by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. From these stories, I was impressed by all of the research found about the rattlesnake and the cobra. This is some of the interesting facts I found out about these snakes. I found some similarities about the cobra and rattlesnake. One thing is that there are many different types of each snake. There are over thirty different types of rattlesnakes in the United States. There are also twenty-eight types of true cobras. Also, both snakes have …show more content…
One fact is that cobras are gigantic. They will grow up to five feet long. “When a cobra rears up, it stands taller than a kneeling man.” The cobra only bites a person once because a cobra bite will kill you. Cobras have enough venom to kill fifty men, they also kill 25,000 people in India a year, alone. A weakness is the cobra can only strike one foot. The rattlesnake is very different from the cobra. The rattlesnake is a pit viper. A pit viper is a venomous snake of a group distinguished by visible sensory pits on the head that can detect heat emitted by their prey. They are found in both America and Asia. A rattlesnake is called what it is because it rattles its tail. When the rattler is in captivity, it tends to become very sluggish. The rattlesnake has two coils for resting itself. When the snake becomes angry at something, it coils up into an “s” shape. It can strike the full length of the “s” but can not strike farther. In all, I believe that learning about snakes during “Snake Week” brought my knowledge up about snakes a whole lot. My favorite story was, “A Running Brook of Horror” by Daniel Mannix. I thought the story was a lot more realistic than real life. It was a very good story and I felt like I was in Daniel’s shoes. I enjoyed learning about snakes especially about the cobra and the

The Burmese python is a very intriguing reptile. These carnivores can grow up to 20 feet long and have a diet of mostly small mammals and birds. They have scales that make beautiful colors and patterns which is probably why they are common choices for pets. They do not have venom but do possess other means of hunting. The pythons have sharp, curved teeth which dig into the animal they are hunting. As the animal tries to escaping it is just digging itself deeper in to the python’s teeth. Once the prey is weak the snake strangles it to death and eats it whole. They use chemical receptors to sense heat for finding food. “The pythons are extraordinary breeders with voracious appetites to match (paragraph 4).”They come in many interesting colors and sizes.…

The original sighting of the Chupacabra was described as being a reptilian skinned beast that hops around on its hind legs, similar to a kangaroo, with large red eyes, spikes down its spine, and ferocious fangs (Hill, 2015, p. 2). Michael Negron, a student from Puerto Rico, described his encounter with the creature: “I was looking off the balcony one night, and I saw it step out of a bright light in the back yard. It was three or four feet tall, with skin like that of a dinosaur, it had bright eyes the size of hens eggs, long fangs and multicolored spikes down its head and back.” Another description of the beast, which is more recent, is one with a more canine appearance with, again, large fangs, spikes down its spine, large claws, and lacking the hair or fur of a typical dog (Team Chupa, 2015, p.…

    Fox Vs Hedgehogs

Throughout the Global Leadership Institute the most compelling topic that we discussed was the fox vs hedgehog lecture. Professor Craig’s presentation on foxes and hedgehogs taught me that humans are prone to be lazy and that being savvy takes commitment and work. Humans are natural born hedgehogs and only through time and determination can they become foxes. To me, the most important characteristic of being a fox would have to be learning from your mistakes. Foxes are great problem solvers due to the fact that after a mistake is made, they learn from them and improve themselves to avoid another one. I struggle with learning from my mistakes, at times I would either be ignorant and ignore them or would simply brush them off. Hopefully after…
