Based on the research I have gathered, I believe my Canadian Franchise, Rawlicious would be successful in an expansion to Australia. This franchise has a competitive advantage as it responds to the global customer demand for healthier food alternatives. It serves food known best to consumers as clear conscience eating, containing no wheat, no meat, no dairy nor refined sugar. Australia is considered to be one of the driest continents on Earth, the full service menu at Rawlicious appeals to this climate as it offers an array of fresh and raw salads, smoothies, wraps and desserts. In order to successfully open a Canadian franchise in a foreign country, it is crucial to establish the similarities and differences between both countries. This
newfound information will help a franchisee successfully integrate their business into a brand new economy. Luckily, Australia and Canada had relatively similar economies, only differentiating in wages and taxes. Wages are a challenging aspect franchises need to keep in mind when planning to open a business in another location as minimum wages for employees vary in each country. The overall cost of living in Australia is higher than Canada, thus causing the minimum wages in Australia to be higher in order to reflect a liveable income. This would factor into the prices set for this franchise as it would need to reflect the cost of living, food and rental space. Rawlicious is a vegan “fast food” franchise that is dedicated to creating and serving a completely organic and gluten free menu. Importing food to Australia not only involves large shipping costs, it also includes paying duties/tariffs depending on the company the food was purchased from. However, this franchise is a fully vegan operation therefore, the high shipping costs of importing meat and dairy to Australia would disappear.
