This short story takes place in Allendale, California during August 4, 2026. Just nights ago, a bomb dropped, blowing up most of everything in sight. Leaving behind one house, a dog, and green radiation. This house was the only one left standing, the blast has charred a mirror image of what life was like before the blast.
What I like about this short story was that the house kept cleaning as if people still lived there. I like this because a normal house would be quiet and lonely. One thing I did not
like about this short story was how the family dog was described in so much detail by the author. I did not like the graphic imagery. For example, "the dog lay foaming at the mouth, its eyes turn to fire. It ran wildly in circles, biting its tail, spun in a frenzy, and died. It lay in the parlor for an hour. " In my opinion, this was too graphic. One last thing that I thought was interesting was how the house so desperately tried to put out the fires. The house soon ran out of water that for days filled baths and did dishes.
In conclusion to the story of There will come soft rains by Ray Bradbury, I found this story particularly interesting because it takes place in the future and discusses how the events lead the story. I also dislike the story because I get overwhelmed by the author's use of imagery, that I lose focus; otherwise it was a good short story.
