Ray Kroc was a business man who visited a fast food business known as McDonalds. This business had an interesting menu of only 9 menus at the time to make it a sufficient restaurant and so they could focus on making those 9 foods as fast and as well as they could. Ray Kroc was visiting Dartmouth and gave a speech at the college. In this speech he talked about how he liked this McDonalds business and wanted to be a part of it. In order for Kroc to buy this restaurant he needed to buy out the competing contract, and he did so. Ray opened his first McDonalds in Seattle, and he ended up selling 18 franchises in that year. He also would rent out the land that the company’s restaurants were on so that the people who owned the building still had to pay that. His initial goal when the business had just begun was for him to open up one thousand of these restaurants. While this was all going on he had his eyes on one woman in particular, her name was Joan. Unfortunately Joan was married and they both were talking about leaving their spouses so that they could be with one another. Ray ended up leaving his wife so that Joan and him could be together, but when Joan never left her husband Ray was devastated and without a woman for the time. When Ray was searching for places to create new restaurants he would look around in a helicopter for church steeples. The reason for this is because he wanted families to come to his restaurants, and where there are churches there are good families that are attending church. Soon Ray’s business was booming and he needed his employees knowing how to operate the machinery correctly. This is when he opened up Hamburger University. Hamburger University is a school where people who want to work at McDonalds can go and learn how Ray wants things done in his business. Ray was very particular about how we wanted things done in his restaurant. In 1961 he wanted to completely buy out McDonalds, and the two
