LILET NEVER HAPPENED

Last Friday, the CEMARS had a general assembly and I'm a member of that

organization. Unfortunately, I was not able to watch this movie at that time so I watched it at home.

The movie, “Lilet Never Happened”, is a very nice and educational to watch. I have to say I was blown

away by the detail and truthfulness of the film. It has truly captured the real picture of poverty in the

Philippines and how this practice of pimping children to rich men has become a culture that is so sad,

yet so real.

The film Lilet Never Happened is a character driven story about Lilet, a maladjusted Filipino

street-girl, struggling to survive on the streets of Manila. International social worker Claire tries to safe

her but this hard headed, traumatized girl thinks she can take her life in her own hands. Though Lilet

gets many opportunities to quit, she stubbornly chooses the hard way. The film is based on interviews

with Lilet, a little girl, who became Manila’s most famous child prostitute.

Children of Lilet’s age, should be out in the playground enjoying play-dates with other children

and not in the streets trying to learn the tricks of survival through stealing, pickpocketing and hustling

drivers and pedestrians alike. Every child deserves education, a home, family who will love them, and

to be raised by parents who will protect them from harm, and guide him to be a good person.

I highly recommend to watch this movie because The movie tackles the breakdown of social

structures that could have otherwise helped people like Lilet and her mother and siblings.

“Culture is the sum of all the forms of art, of love, and of thought, which, in the coarse or centuries, have enabled man to be less enslaved” (A. Malraux). There are many different cultures in the world but the Indian culture is a unique one. The Indian culture has been influenced by a history that is many millennia’s old, and still has a big influence on the world with over 1.2 billion followers who don’t just reside in India; but all over Earth itself. The short story, Ramu and Rani, is a cultural story from India and was written by Iqbal Ahmad. In this story, a soon to be married man learns about the tale of Ramu and Rani; two lovers and they’re struggle to be together because of culture. The short story, Ramu and Rani, written by Iqbal Ahmad, is a typical Indian culture story compared to Geert Hofstede’s cultural dimensions model. Ramu and Rani demonstrates similarities to Geert Hofstede’s cultural dimensions model through power distance, masculinity, and indulgence/restraint.…

Each child and young person is different and has individual preferences and requirements. We need to ensure that adequate activities are provided to suit each child’s likes and preferences and that they are all given equal play opportunities appropriate for their age. This may mean adapting an activity to be easier for a younger child or more challenging for an older or more able child. Each child’s ability should be praised and encouraged and playworkers should always promote equality and opportunity.…

I felt inspirited by Okwe and his ability to make the best out of every situation. He did not allow his hardship to bring him down, which is a life lesson the audience can take away from watching this film. Many situations came up where Okwe was in difficult positions, but he did not lose hope. I did not realize the obstacles illegal immigrants have to overcome especially when their employer takes advantage of their situation. Being limited to choices can impact our important life decisions. Okwe chose the right path of working hard even when could have taken the easy way out by being a part of his managers illegal business of selling kidneys. I learned that it is better to stay true to your morals rather than going after materialistic things. Even though I cannot relate to Okwe’s lifestyle, I can relate to the message being portrayed. Regardless of what is standing in our way, it is crucial to rise above the obstacles but not forget to stay true to…

Because the jury issues but a mere advisory opinion and not binding upon the court, Florida’s sentencing scheme must be unconstitutional. Florida’s statute requires that a court imposing the death sentence must make a written, detailed finding. This detailed account—not the jury’s verdict—that furnishes the basis for the Supreme Court of Florida’s review. Respondent’s rely on Hildwin (1989 case that permits the judge to find aggravating circumstances that authorize the death sentence) because it has not been expressly overruled. The ideas and principles in Hildwin were thrown out with Walton, clarified in Ring, and expressly overrule today.…

The lead characters include Susanna, a young woman with borderline personality disorder. She doesn’t know what she wants to do or where to go in life. She finds herself admitted into a mental institution after taking a bottle of aspirin and drinking a bottle of vodka. Lisa is a “lifer” patient in the ward, and she clearly has some major personality, social and mental issues. It was never clearly spoken what her diagnosis was, however, some of the other girls on the ward mention sociopath, and criminally insane. She has no empathy for others around her unless it benefits her. She is manipulative and conniving. She uses the weakness of the minds in her circle to get what she wants. This intrigues Susanna, who befriends Lisa, to Susanna, she personifies freedom. Another character is Valerie, a black woman, and head nurse of Susannas ward. She doesn’t take any lip, and is a very strong mother figure in the story. Valerie is a single mother, and I believe this adds to her strength with dealing with the girls in the ward.…

In 2008, I had the opportunity to visit the Philippines for the first time. I traveled to the various villages that my family was from, and it was evident that most people were quite poor, many whom worked on farms or owned small businesses. Surprisingly, these people were not sad because of their circumstances; they smiled through them. I was taking a glimpse of the world that my family had lived in, and I began to understand in a deeper sense why they wanted to come to the United States.…
