The movie Helen of Troy shows the important details before and inside the book Iliad. This movie helps the readers to understand this book. Also, it shows how the Trojan war started and how Troy has fallen.

Like in the book, because Helen was taken by Paris, the Achaeans demanded to take her back and conquer and make Troy fall. The movie only shows the important details and the book, and changes the flow of the story to make it more beautiful and appropriate for their theme. After viewing the movie, there are lot of differences between the book Iliad and the movie Helen of Troy. Like in the movie, Achilles is one of the faithful followers of Agamemnon but in the book, Achilles disgusts him and didn’t participate in the war until Patroclus was killed by Hector. Also in the movie, Hector didn’t seem to participate in the battle but in the book, he is the one who leads the soldiers of Troy. There are a lot of differences on the movie and the book but still, they both show how Troy has fallen because of one woman.

The Greeks are plotting to invade Troy to steal the treasures of the Trojans. Meanwhile Prince Paris is assigned by his wise father and King of Troy to travel to Sparta and shows the peaceful intentions of his people. Along his journey, he falls into the sea during a storm and is rescued on the shore by the Queen of Sparta, Helen. When he recovers, he believes that she is a slave and they fall in love with each other. When he arrives at the Spartan palace, he is arrested by King Menelaus but Helen helps him to escape. They travel together to Troy and give the excuse the Greeks need to start the war and put Troy under siege for years. The Greeks are unsuccessful in their intents, until they listen to the cunning Ulysses. The Greeks then withdraw their one thousand ships from the Trojan waters and offer a wooden Horse of Troy as a gift to the winners.

There isn't really many comparing factors between the book and the movie but some are that Hannah opens the door to let in the prophet Elijah in both the book and the movie. Hannah tells stories to the women and children in her barrack in both the book and the movie and I think that those stories is probably what kept most of them alive throughout the movie. Rivka survives in both the book and the movie because Hannah wanted her to get out so she took her place to go into the gas chambers. Rivka later gets out of the amps and changes her name to Eva like she said she would in the movie to Hannah. Rivka later becomes Hannah's aunt Eva in both the book and the movie. Hannah goes to die for rivka in both the book and the movie. The contrast…

Now in order to compare the two we must first explore what the movie and story are both about and the story each one follows. The Iliad starts 9 years after the beginning of the Trojan War with the Achaean (Greek) army raiding the town of Chryse and taking two women, Chrysies and Briseis. Agamemnon claims Chrysies and Achilles claims Briseis. Neither however counted the fact that Chrysies’ father, Chryses was a Priest of Apollo. After Chryses offers a huge reward for the return of his daughter and Agamemnon refuses he then prays to Apollo who in return sends a Plague upon the Achaean camp. Agamemnon consults the prophet and learns he must return his prize but in return he demands Briseis. Once hearing this, Achilles refuses to fight any longer in the war and holes himself up inside his tent. Achilles filled with his own rage and stupidity, asks his mother Thetis is ask Zeus to join the side of the Trojans, the Army the Achaeans are fighting against. Zeus complies and starts to bring his rage down upon the Achaean camp.…

One thing in particular that the book does much better is making use of complex metaphors and themes, such as: the river for life, and oneness with nature, that string themselves together as you turn each page of the book, while in the movie the metaphors and symbolism are represented in a much different way through picture. In the book, both themes regarding the river are very vivid and clear, as they use strong imagery of nature to draw pictures in the minds of the readers. In the movie both themes are represented and referred to much less because of the lack of narration.…

Homer's The Iliad presents many key details on the Trojan War. The Iliad tells of the Trojan War, saying that there was a war and that it was an expedition to rescue Helen after her abduction by Paris. It tells us that "Agamemnon King of Men" (Homer, p.1) moved the Greek people to unite and take up arms against Priam's city of Troy where Helen was being held after she was stolen from Menelaus. The Iliad, however also brings myth into the mix with the idea that when Paris was asked to judge the beauty of the Goddesses, Athena, Aphrodite and Hera, he picked Aphrodite who offered him the love of the most beautiful woman in the world (Helen). It is these ideas that lead us to question the accuracy of The Iliad, and before considering The Iliad to be true, Homer's reliability as a creditable writer must be considered.…

"The Iliad" contains characters such as; Achilles, a half man and half god who is the greatest warrior in all of Greece, Agamemnon, the king of all the kings in Greece, Paris, a prince of Troy who steals Helen, the wife of Agamemnon's brother, Meneleus, who goes to Agamemnon to start the war. There are no roles of any kind of working class or slaves in the story. This reflects on the social structure of the world in the time "The Iliad" was written. It shows how much importance was reflected on the Kings and great warriors of the time. It could also show how glorious war was depicted as the highest ranked men were the only ones included in the story. Unlike all the important men, there was only one main character woman in "The Iliad," Helen. This illustrates how much of the roles of women were not important to society at the…

The movie has many similar aspects in comparison to the poem that includes the setting, characters, conflicts, main events, themes, and the Greek mythology elements. There are alsomany differences between the Poem and the movie. Quite a few things make the poem andmovie different from each other. Some things aren’t big differences but there are a lot more ofthe small differences too. It’s also pretty obvious and easy to point out the differences once youare watching the movie. One example, in the book, No one was killed but there is one guy killed in the movie whileescaping from the cyclops. Another difference is when in the book, Odysseus and his soldiersescaped at night, but in the movie they escaped in the morning. One of the more majordifferences that I personally thought made the book better was in the book, Odysseus is the onewho had the idea to stab cyclops in the eye and get him drunk, well in the movie that wasn’texactly the case, this is different from the movie because in the movie Odysseus is not the onewho stabs cyclops in the eye, it was one of his men. Although this scene was done in both movieand…

When exploring the main concerns and key aspects in both ‘Troy’ and ‘The Iliad’ the audience have to over-come and understand the huge focus of loss. When experiencing loss many other possessions come along with it such as, grief, anger, revenge, loneliness and various emotions and feelings. Looking deeper into both texts you gain a sense and understanding of the grief all families and loved ones had to endure from the loss of a family member or relation. Both text can be read into closely to find deeper meanings and when drawing onto different meanings you see that when reading ‘The Iliad’ and viewing ‘Troy’ nature is frequently touched on in both text.…
