75th UAAP Opening Ceremonies

Last Saturday, July 14, the biggest sports event for Philippine universities has finally started during the opening ceremonies of the UAAP’s 75th season at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Thousands of fans of the eight universities were there to witness it.
The trip to Pasay City was a tiring one. My cousin and I had to board on MRT just to reach our destination. The traffic that built-up around the dome was overwhelming; however, upon entering the dome, the sound of drums roused my consciousness and exhausted body.
It feels so pleasing to see all those supporters cheering for their respective universities and teams while performing their jingles. The roll-calling of the university names was followed by beating drums, confetti and balloons of various colors resembling the different participants fighting for this year’s UAAP triumph. It can be observed that everyone is excited and thrilled for the upcoming sports events, each desiring to win.
Ex-President Fidel V. Ramos was the one who led the ceremonial toss. He jogged towards the center of the arena and stood there beaming in front of the people like a true athlete. When the game was finally formally declared open, another loud variety of cheers filled the air.
As of now, I am looking forward to experience this same event again next season because it marks a healthy competition and unison of all the country’s leading universities.
Like the other members of the audience in the UAAP opening ceremonies, I also have my bet. Being an Iska and one the Fighting Maroons, I, of course, support the University of the
Philippines and its athletes. Unibersidad ng Pilipinas!

I attended an A.A. meeting on April 5, 2010. Before the meeting I seemed very anxious. This was not my first meeting I have been to meetings before but they all seem to make me nervous. When I arrived the nervousness had eased off because everyone had made me feel welcomed. I was made to feel like a part of their family from the beginning to the end of the meeting. I seemed to have realized I missed going to these meetings and I miss the fellowship but it has not interfered with me staying sober.…

How often have you heard the chant I-L-L-I-N-I? Here on the campus I hear this chant a lot in support of school sprit. This chant is widely used throughout the university at most sporting events and I have personally heard the chant at highly populated social gatherings. This university renowned chant when implemented at the sports aspect is a great crowd pleaser and I am pretty sure it hypes up our home team to a certain extent. I’ve recently attended the Men’s basketball home game against Wisconsin on March 2nd, 2013 to witness this chant first hand but primarily I attended the game in regards to evaluating the event from a consultant’s perspective.…

The last minute surprise in a soccer game when the underdog team scores a lucky goal and wins the game is what spectators “live for.” The look of sheer concentration on the face of the sprinter as he crosses the finish line first (or even last), knowing they doing the best they can is why people watch sports and why they compete in them. Coloring the event with the muscle bound jocks who only had to pop some pills and do minimum amount of work to hone their bodies to perfection will take the fun, the surprise, and even the disappointment we’ve come to expect when we watch our favorite team on Monday night football. From the beginning of the worldas athletic competition, the very first Olympic Games…
