Reaction To Mr. Derby's Life
Initial Reaction:
As Amari’s journey continued, she was forced to experience unexpected tasks when being at the Derby’s. It took Amari a while to recover from the pain Mr.Derby put her in. Many thought his violent actions towards her were unreasonable, but no one dared to stand against him. Her biggest fear was to work in the rice fields. Once she recovered, she was put back to work and wishing that her owner would not notice her. Soon she was discovered and was put to help delivery Mrs.Derby’s baby. Amari was calm, but Mrs.Derby was full of fear. When the beautiful baby was born, she knew why Mrs.Derby was afraid of. The baby was black, but Amari ignored that and admired her beauty. Amari tried to save the baby’s life but she couldn’t do anything. The baby and the father, Noah ended up dying right in front of her. All she could do was sob because death was everywhere in her life. They’re are planning going to sell her and her friends expect Teenie. Soon one of the oldest slaves named Cato came with helpful advice. He said how going to the South is the best way to be set free, but it’s a

He killed the father of the baby first, Noah. Once he did that Mrs.Derby cried and was full of anger because he was the one man she truly loved. But as soon as he killed her baby, she wished to die with them as well. Mr.derby did not want that to happen because death would be too easy for her. He wants the emptiness in her life to eat her alive because she betrayed him. What Mr.Derby was pure evil and deserves to be punish. He killed an innocent baby who did not choose to be born. It was not the baby’s fault who was picked to have a father who is black and a mother who is white. He could’ve sold the baby and not kill it. The baby was hopeless who was only a few hours born.
