After watching this video I learned that porn is not necessarily degrading to women as I previously thought. I used to think that porn was gross and only guys watched it. My thoughts about X-rated films have changed and now I do believe that they could play an important role in society. Pornography websites like the one that I went on are a good idea because they have different categories for a variety of preferences. The “female friendly” category shows that it’s acceptable and normal for women to watch porn. Online pornography could play a role in society and be used for sexual gratification for people who do not have a partner or are seeking gratification in other places.
My impressions of people who watch porn are that they are normal and just trying to get sexual gratification. Some other viewers of porn may watch it because it is at the access of their fingertips. Shy people may feel more comfortable watching porn rather than participating in sexual activity on their own. I think that is natural for people to be curious about sex and viewers of porn can learn a lot from watching the films. However, my opinions about people who participate in these films are a little bit different. I think it takes a very open person to be willing to have videos of them having sex online. I do not necessarily have a problem with people who take part in these films, but I do think that if they do not get tested or use protection that they are presenting a danger to themselves and others.
The worth of this unique experience project was to push my comfort zone. Not only did I go out of my comfort zone with this project, I expanded my knowledge and changed my opinions in doing so. Without this project I probably would not have watched porn on my own. I also would not have known that there are all different types of pornography for people with different preferences.
For people that have not watched pornography before I would recommend doing so because it might open their mind like it opened my mind. Many women think that porn only portrays females in a negative light and I think if they were shown videos similar to the one I watched they might expand their minds a bit. Also, people who have not watched these films before might find that they enjoy doing so and continue to watch them for their enjoyment.
This project relates to the course because it expands knowledge about sexuality. It allows people in the course to do something they might not normally feel comfortable doing and reflect back on whether or not they would do it again. My experience relates to the course because it introduced me to the world of online pornography that I would not have been experienced to otherwise. The online pornography industry plays a huge role in human sexuality and how people view sex. I am glad that this project was assigned because otherwise I might have never changed my beliefs about porn and its use in society if it were not for this assignment.

In Paul’s Pornified, one of the male she interviewed says that “We’re raised with women objectified in our culture.” Historically, women do not have control in their bodies, but having sexual autonomy has a big connection to women’s liberation. Segal who is a pro sex or sex positive feminist argues that women who are in control of their sexuality can become autonomous individual. For instance, she says that pornography is a form of freedom to women as they can “explore their own desire and pleasures” (Lecture notes). Also the lecture notes for this week states that women’s reproductive and sexual capacity are being used to take over to women’s economic, political and social freedom.…

Sexuality was redefined in France through what Historians and Sociologist considered then “The Sexual Revolution.” In recent years, historians have begun to emphasize the gradual nature of the sexual revolution that took place in the West from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. Deeming it the “long sexual revolution,” they deemphasize the significance of any single event or moment in favor of a longer view that recognizes a slow and steady process of change. The Long Sexual Revolution is the change in sexual appearance, predominately, a women appearance through the course of many significant events, such as May 68, and with the influence of media. The Journal of the History of Sexuality is a multi-volume series…

Today, sexuality is still one of the biggest taboos. Even though it has been more expressed in the present movies, especially in the past it was barely expressed throughout movies. Producers were not able to predict how society would react towards sexuality used in their films, and do to the thoughts and cultural qualities only little amounts of sexuality were used in films. These “sexual” scenes were mostly related to romance and were also expressed as romantic innocent behaviors. Examples for such behaviors can be, a little…

When discussing the “XXX” industry, otherwise known as pornography or the adult film industry, people tend to discuss it in hushed tones, or rather not discuss it much at all. When it comes to sex in general, America generally is uncomfortable talking about sex and topics related to it. It should come as no surprise that the porn industry is treated in a similar fashion. Pornography, according to Sullivan, was considered “sexually 'explicit' writings, still or motion pictures and similar products designed to be sexually arousing,” (Sullivan, 2012, pg.321).…

The demands of excessive and misdirected sexual desire are in the air we breathe. Lust is not a private, personal problem (DeYoung, 3158). Her letter is typical of the desperation and frustration of so many: I don’t know who I am anymore. I am so scared….…

Christian Metz had many views on how we view film in a certain way. He believes that an audience looking at sexually explicit content is “Scopophilia” or “deriving pleasure from looking.” Furthermore, cinemagoers make it a point to not be too close or too far from the screen. They need to maintain the right amount of distance, while still being separated from the "object” on screen.…
