COMN-152
QUESTION 25
Read your first journal entry. How have your reading and writing skills improved in COMN 152? What are some areas that still need improvement?
I have taken a look at my first journal entry, I believe that my reading and writing skills substantially improved in COMN 152. In reading, I often did not use a dictionary and translate new vocabulary during reading a book, along with a random story in which I read on the internet. I try to finish reading it first, and then I guess new words; if I cannot understand, that time I should use the dictionary. After practicing reading without help, I can remember those new words’ meaning, together with I know how to use them correctly. As for writing, I

The Civil War was the most divisive war in American history. In the early 1800s, the United States experienced a growth of nationalism and unity, but it was replaced by sectionalism, leading to the Civil War. There were many reasons why the South wanted to secede, reasons the North wanted to maintain the Union, and the controversy surrounding slavery and steps taken to abolish it.…

In a few years from now, I would really like to open up some sort of cafe, specifically a boba shop. I would like for it to be located in California, specifically Southern California so it can compete with other boba shops. The menu would be filled with a variety of milk teas, flavored teas, and lattes that can be paired with various toppings such as boba, grass jelly, egg pudding, different popping boba flavors, and an array of different fruit jellies. I would also like to serve small desserts on the side, such as macarons, mille crepe cakes, and brick toast. As for the cafe itself, I would like for it to have a cozy yet minimalistic vibe from the decor. In other terms, white…

How to draw a blood specimen from a patient has a few steps that have to be followed or the specimen will be contaminated. The steps to draw blood are as follows; first, you need to assembly all your equipment – lab request, vaccutainer (the needle & tube holder), needle, tourniquet, & tubes; then, connect the vaccutainer and needle together. Using universal precautions and put gloves on and DO NOT rip off one of the fingers so you can feel better this will only put the phlebotomist at risk. The second step is to explain the procedure to your patient, this will help keep them calmer; then place the tourniquet around the arm, about quarter inch above the bend of elbow.…

I find great interest in the Egyptian culture. The culture goes back through time. Sayre (2013) stated, “Egypt’s continuous cultural tradition—lasting over 3,000 years—is history’s clearest example of how peace and prosperity go hand in hand with cultural stability” (p. 28).…

In order to speak on Humanities, there must be a clear view on what the meaning of it is. Humanities are a clear investigation of human beings and how they act, which includes their self-expression and their culture. The purpose of this paper is to explain how humanities replicate changing concepts of life and individuals in diverse historical periods. In today's civilization, human beings are ignorant to the history of our people. Our ancestors have contributed too many areas that we participate in frequently. The result of researching humanities provides us with a better understanding of where individuals have been and where it is important to go. “To See Who Was Best on the Plantation: Enslaved Fighting Contests and Masculinity in the Antebellum Plantation South”, written by Sergio Lussana, gives us insight into the life of those on Southern plantations from the male slave perspective. In comparison to the amount of information available on the role of women in slavery, there is surprising less information about men. This may be attributed to the fact that slave communities on plantations were matriarchal societies. Nevertheless, Lussana offers valuable information based largely on the accounts of former slave diaries.…

My name is Guy Johanson, and I am a sophomore Music Education major at the Setnor School of Music. I am originally from Liverpool, NY, just outside of Syracuse. I have been involved with Syracuse University since the time I was in middle school participating in youth ensembles playing the French Horn and the Oboe. Currently I am a member of the Syracuse University Marching Band, Tau Beta Sigma (the national band sorority), and am usually playing with many ensembles around campus. I work at Old Navy in Destiny USA during school breaks, while during the school year I work at the Cathedral Academy at Pompey as an after school music program teacher. My strongest skill that I possess, I believe, is my ability to time manage. Throughout the past year and a half, I have learned to balance 19+ credits, sorority involvement, and working two jobs during the year.…

The essay on His Race for Race was a very descriptive essay. The essay spoke on the color of Barack Obama which showed the racial barriers he went through today as our president. Obama is very good with speeches and debates he mastered that from his days on the Harvard Debate Team. One point in the 2008 presidential campaign a white lady showed a racial stereotype due to ignorance by saying “she isn’t voting for Obama because he was Arabian.” Obama comes from a very large diverse family and culture.…

The event that most interested me was the slave trader video. How they took a prince and broke him. He still was able to survive and still run a plantation just like the tribe he was from. It must take a lot of self will to survive in the conditions they were put in on the boat, then to get off and still be no better than cattle. Though slavery was equally as tragic and traumatic for black men and women, the experience of slavery affected them in different ways. "Depending upon their age and gender, slaves were assigned a particular task, or tasks, that had to be completed during the course of the day." In certain settings, men would participate in the hard labor, such as working on the farm, while women would generally work in the household. They would "be sent out on errands, but in most cases their jobs required that they spend much of their time within their owner's household." These gender distinctions were mainly applied in the Northern colonies and on larger plantations. In Southern colonies and smaller farms, however, women and men typically engaged in the same roles, both working in the tobacco crop fields.…
