For criteria three, examine college-level reading skills as an active part of the writing process, I chose the memoir literary Analysis paper titled Triggered-Literary Analysis. The reason I chose this paper was because we were required to read an actual memoir before writing the paper. The most important aspect of the criteria, being the analyzing part, was found to be one of my strengths. I developed new levels of comprehension and understanding while reading Triggered by Fletcher Wortmann. It is tough to analyze and read at the same time because it is something that I do not do very often, but with this paper I was able to prove that I was able to comprehend Wortmann’s novel at an advanced level. By stating the author’s clear intentions,…

Well, I can now say after reading last week's article by Hass and Flower and this weeks Penrose and Geisler's which was about how important rhetorical reading is and can help understand what you are reading, has opened my eyes to that fact that these are only part of why I have trouble with writing. As I reflect on past writing assignments, I now see it could have been due to my lack of experiences within certain rhetorical situations. Now that I have advanced my education and have gained additional experience on how to approach writing differently, my style of writing seems to flow better, and has become less intimidating. Which has lead to fewer sentence fragments; consistent grammar and being less critical, this has helped me, become a more knowledgeable writer. I can now say I am more like Roger and less like Janet because I now can connect the texts I am reading with real world events or things that have happened within my own life. Ultimately, I have now found that being a more experienced student has helped me improve how to read between the lines and not read just to paraphrase, it has also helped me write a better structured, more comprehensive, and well-organized essay using better examples. The important part of these readings…

After mentioning the list of good readers, Nabokov says that we need to really immerse ourselves into the book, and “we have no physical organ (as we have the eye in regard to a painting) that takes in the whole picture and then can enjoy its details. But at a second, or third, or fourth reading we do, in a sense, behave towards a book as we do towards a painting.” (7) He makes a reference to how paintings are easy to “fondle” over the details of. However, reading is considered an art in this context. At first, we’re all focused on the plot and actually figuring out the story. But once we reread a book, we may understand the deeper meanings and pick up on some small yet important details we missed out on the first time.…

If I didn’t intrigue the reader then my writing wasn’t good enough and in those sentences it was required that I had to try and use more sophisticated vocabulary so that the reader won’t get bored of me repeating words. Then in my junior year I was taught how to annotate articles. My teacher said that the reason that we annotate was to put notes near parts of the article that we either found important or that we wanted to go back to for more clarification. I had also been taught the simple skill of rereading where if it didn’t make sense the first time go back and read the article all over again so I can try to understand it. Rough drafts were something that had been required since I was learning how to write paragraph papers. We would have to peer edit another student’s writing and see if we can find any errors however my experiences with this was that my friends would peer edit my writing in the class and wouldn’t be honest with my writing and say that it was good even though there may have been mistakes they could’ve told me about while they were editing. My high school English teachers had…
