I strongly believe that we should get rid of reading logs. Because it just brings stress to the kids of getting their parent to sign the reading log, because they know if their parent does not sign their reading log the grade will go down. Secondly reading should be a gift you should not have to think of it as a chore. You should be able to get into a good book without thinking about how long you are reading for. By getting rid of reading logs if you don't have the full time you won't have to walk into school stressed out because you know your grade is going to go down.…

    1. (Outliers) Page 19-20: Biologists often talk about the “ecology” of an organism: the tallest oak in the forest is the tallest not just because it grew from the hardiest acorn; it is the tallest also because no other trees blocked its sunlight, the soil around it was deep and rich, no rabbit chewed through its bark as a sapling, and no lumberjack cut it down before it matured. 2. (Outliers) Page 17: If you have ability, the vast network of hockey scouts and talent spotters will find you, and if you are willing to work to develop that ability, the system will reward you. Success in hockey is based on individual merit—and both of those words are important. Players are judged on their own performance, not on anyone else’s, and on the basis of their ability, not on some other arbitrary fact.Or are they? 3. (Life of Pi) Page 122: The poor dear looked so humanely sick! It is a particularly funny thing to read human traits in animals, especially in apes and monkeys, where it is so easy. Simians are the clearest mirrors we have in the animal world. That is why they are so popular in zoos. I laughed again. I brought my hands to my chest, surprised at how I felt. Oh my. This laughter was like a volcano of happiness erupting in me. And Orange Juice had not only cheered me up; she had taken on both our feelings of sickness. 4. (Life of Pi) Page 168: I had to devise a training program for Richard Parker. I had to make him understand that I was top tiger and that his territory was limited to the floor of the boat, the stern bench and the side benches as far as the middle cross bench. I had to fix in his mind that the top of the tarpaulin and the bow of the boat, bordered by the neutral territory of the middle bench, was my territory and utterly forbidden to him. 5. (Outliers) Page 45-46: “The challenge was that they gave all the students an account with a fixed amount of money, so your time would run out. When you signed on, you…

The event that most interested me was the slave trader video. How they took a prince and broke him. He still was able to survive and still run a plantation just like the tribe he was from. It must take a lot of self will to survive in the conditions they were put in on the boat, then to get off and still be no better than cattle. Though slavery was equally as tragic and traumatic for black men and women, the experience of slavery affected them in different ways. "Depending upon their age and gender, slaves were assigned a particular task, or tasks, that had to be completed during the course of the day." In certain settings, men would participate in the hard labor, such as working on the farm, while women would generally work in the household. They would "be sent out on errands, but in most cases their jobs required that they spend much of their time within their owner's household." These gender distinctions were mainly applied in the Northern colonies and on larger plantations. In Southern colonies and smaller farms, however, women and men typically engaged in the same roles, both working in the tobacco crop fields.…

Nursing has always been a passion for me, something about the gratification from helping others regain optimal functionality is refreshing. I witnessed this feeling years ago when I had to honored of assisting my grandmother with her post care after having a triple bypass in 2003. Those moments of appreciation she showed me were priceless. In the next five years my nursing role will probably increase exponentially due to the increasing aging of the American population, which will result in an increased number of individuals needing medical assistance in their elderly years. In addition, my nursing role will expand and or increase due to the fact that the nursing shortage is predicted to continue to grow for the next 10 years or more if not curtailed, which will place increasing responsibility on nurses to administer to the needs of more patients, as well as to assume the management role of supervising newer nursing staff. In addition, an increasing number of patients will place more burden on the limited number of doctors that are available, which will require that nurses assume an increasing role in assisting physicians in carrying out treatment procedures.…

he Viking Investments simulation presented a reality of many negotiations about money owed: It is beneficial for both sides to come to an agreement and avoid any legal situations. In this case, Pat (Pevsner) and Sandy (myself and Bierbryer) had a contractual agreement for materials and services rendered, however through miscommunication an upgrade was performed on the materials without Pat's personal approval. In order for this negotiation to be successful, Pat and I had to get past the petty arguments of who "screwed" up and who is legally responsible for the events leading up to this negotiation. If we continued debating the merits of one another’s positions, we would have ended up in court, I would have declared bankrupt and Pat would have ended up receiving a much lower percentage of the owed amount.…

As a GCU student in the class UNV 103, prioritizing is very significant for me because without it I would not be able to complete my assignments on time. I begin my week with reading the assignments and answering the discussion forum questions. Next, I usually reply to other peoples posts throughout the week. I will start writing the journal entries and completing the assignments that are due for the week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Finally, I read my work over before I finally submit my assignments for the week. After a hard day of work I come home and complete my assignments first, and then I complete any other chores that I have to do.…
