This study was conducted upon the enrollment of Grade 1 pupils of school year 2010-2011 primarily to determine the reading readiness of Grade 1 pupils of selected schools of the Municipality of Mambusao such as Mambusao Elementary School, Ilawod Elementary School, Caidquid Elementary School and Don Juan Andaya Elementary School. Specifically, this study aimed to: describe the profile of the pupil respondents in terms of Preschool Education, Experiential Readiness, School Location, Parent's Educational Attainment and Monthly Family Income; determine the reading readiness of pupil respondents in terms of Preschool Education, Experiential Readiness, School Location, Monthly Family Income and Parents Educational Attainment; determine the reading readiness of pupil respondents as an entire group when grouped according to school Mambusao Elementary School, Ilawod Elementary School, Caidquid Elementary School and Don Juan Andaya Elementary School; and find out if there is a significant difference in the Reading Readiness Skills of pupil respondents when grouped according to the different variables such as Preschool Education, Experiential Readiness, School Location, Parent's Educational Attainment and Parents Monthly Family Income.
The study was conducted to Grade 1 pupils upon enrollment in (2) two Central schools and (2) two Barangay schools for the school year 2010-2011. Out of two hundred eighty six (286) Grade 1 pupils, one hundred sixty seven (167) were randomly chosen as respondents of this study.
Questionnaire was the main instrument of the study. The instrument dealt with the profile of the pupil respondents which includes the name and the address, preschool education, experiential readiness, parent's educational attainment and monthly family income. The researcher used the secondary data which was taken from a primary data conducted by teachers using the standardized SReA (School Readiness Assessment by DEP-ED). Data were analyzed using mean, frequency and percentage. T-test and ANOVA (F-test) were used to determine the significant difference among the different variables such as Preschool Education, Experiential Readiness, Parent's Educational Attainment and Monthly Family Income of pupil respondents.
Result revealed that majority of the pupil respondents had attended preschool education with 1 year experience. They have their preschool education located in town. Likewise, their parents educational attainment were college graduate and had a monthly family income of Php5,000 and below.
The pupil respondents who undergone preschool education, who have more number of years in preschool, who have undergone preschool education in town, whose pupil respondents' parents had attended college and graduated and pupil respondents who have monthly family income above of poverty line of Php9,034.29 showed readiness in formal education.
In terms of reading readiness, the result revealed that pupil respondents from Ilawod Elementary School were all "ready" for Grade 1 work.
The variables like Preschool Education, Experiential Readiness, School Location, Parent's Educational Attainment and Monthly Family Income differed significantly at 5% level of significance in the reading readiness of pupil respondents.
