Reading: What It Means To Me
That aha! moment when you finally figure out that math problem you have been stuck on. The wow! feeling you get when you see fireworks explode. Those goose bumps you get when you listen to your favorite song live. Reading can do all of those things! It’s like when you read a mystery novel and you figure out whom the killer is and you go, Aha! When you are reading this fantastic adventure and pirates have just chased you off a cliff because you stole their treasure, you say, wow! Reading a love story gives you goose bumps because, well, who doesn’t love a sappy love story? You should get all of these feelings and more when you read a good book. Reading can make you feel loved, and betrayed. Reading can take you to far off places. Let me share with you my story of how I came to love books, to be inspired by books, and to appreciate books.
I came to love reading at a very young age. My mother was a huge part in me learning to love books. Because my mom was an elementary teacher I had a wonderful book collection at a very young age. I had picture books, easy read books, short books, long books, even chapter books! Needless to say I had tons of books, which I loved to look at and eventually read. Before I learned to read I would always want my mom to read to me. My favorite book that she read to me when I was little was The Story of Jonah: Alice in Bibleland. My mom told me that I would have her read that book to me three or four times a day. That when ever I needed to take a nap or at night before I went to bed this was the book she had to read for me to be able to go to sleep. Once I got a little older and learned to read on my own I loved to ready Are You My Mother? I remember reading this book to death when I was only in first or second grade. It was definitely one of my favorite books to read. As you can see even at a young age I loved to read and to be read to.
