him. After a while the calf will get annoying, following you around and sucking on your shirt. But you have to kind cause he’ll be feeding you one day, just like you’re feeding him today. Everything gets old and dies off, it’s sad and you hope it never happens.
Death on a farm always comes when you don’t expect it. A death of one of my animals makes me stop and think that we only have a limited time here. Sometimes you stop and think about what you could have done. Like one time one of my pigs died from pneumonia, I thought for a month on how i could have saved him. I could’ve noticed the sickness quicker and told dad to get the vet. Truth is, I thought it was just an ordinary cough at first and I thought he would get over it. I was wrong and I paid the price. I know to pay better attention and tell dad when I notice something
wrong. Every once in awhile you get a weak animal that can’t stand. Old and young, it may happen, you never know. We have a ravine that’s in the middle of our pastures, it got really muddy one time and a cow got stuck in it. When I found she was tired. I got dad and we pulled her out with some ratchet straps and ropes. She was really weak and couldn’t stand right away. I went out the next morning and saw she was with the others grazing. I was amazed how fast she recovered. It made me believe more in God for having that miracle happen. I know I’m not the cowboy on TV or on the movies, but the it’s a goal of mine to be the best in the world. All that I do on our little Indiana farm is making me into a greater man. I know work because I’ve worked so hard my hands got callused than those broke and bled. With a little faith and a determination to work hard, it’ll get you farther. I am the man getting up in the morning, in the freezing cold, taking care of my livestock, before anything else.
