There are many people in today's society who in watch reality TV for various reasons. In the essay, "The Tribe Has Spoken", Rebecca Gardyn explains how age and gender can affect why people watch reality TV. She also focuses on whether or not reality TV will last. In her essay, there are many different statistics showing peoples perspective on reality TV. Gardyn draws upon different demographics that relate to her essay. Like others in the 18- to 24-year-old age group, I too enjoy watching reality TV. Although I like reality television, I am also interested in other genres as serial dramas because of the suspense.…

On the other hand, some reality shows promote a good message to society. Shows like American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and X Factor are prime examples of a good quality reality TV show that is strictly fun and full of entertainment. Reality TV has unseen effects and is detrimental to society. Reality TV is the current trend on TV that has brought back the buzz to television, but it also has unforeseen effects on its viewers. Some examples of Reality TV shows include: American Idol, The Bachelorette, Americas next top model, fear factor, etc...These shows range from singing talents, overcome their fears, to looks and beauty. Reality TV brings drama and voyeurism to its viewers by making its viewers too involved, taking them away from more important matters, and by wasting valuable resources on pointless entertainment.…
Reality television has become increasingly more popular and appears to be taking over the entertainment business. Psychologist Lawrence Rubin seems to think it all goes back to Aristotle, “The notion of being drawn to drama and tragedy”(Kinon, 2009). The viewer receives a false sense of “real life” and disconnects from their own “real life” by diving into someone else's. The effects these television shows have on society as a whole can be positive or negative depending on the message the show depicts. Shows such as “Jersey Shore”, “16 and Pregnant”, and “Dr. 90210” are a huge success to MTV but could be considered detrimental to society by painting distorted pictures of reality in the viewer’s mind. Shows including “Extreme Home Makeover”,“Undercover Boss”, and “American Idol” can be considered to have a positive affect on society. These programs report the positive stories of the average everyday person inspiring the viewer. These shows reward well-mannered people doing amazing things around their community rather than rewarding others on behavior that is unacceptable to everyday norms of our society. This paper is going to discuss the negative affects reality television programs bring to society as well as the positive affects. We will also discuss how marketers can use the high ratings of these reality shows to reach a larger audience of consumers.…

Out of many TV shows, there is an extensive number of reality TV shows. For example, the most common are American Idol, The Bachelor, and Big Brother. These reality shows impact our lives both positively and negatively. According to Cynthia Frisby, “reality shows are just new shows that promise more drama, suspense, and laughter while constantly pushing the strings on what is morally and decently acceptable.” Reality TV shows craft opportunities for normal but talented people to compete against one another in an immense amount of ways. To most these reality shows can be a relaxing comfort but to others it can be an emotional rollercoaster just to view one certain show. Reality TV can affect the viewers and the contestants especially emotionally, selfishly, and physically.…
Reality television shows are shows based on real people in real time. Individuals are put, as a group, in a particular environment where each person, or team, experiences roughly the same things. The fan base for realty shows is extensive and the number of shows has been rapidly increasing in recent years. Reality television has become very popular and, for some, even addicting. These shows, overall, have become detrimental to the public. The negative effects these shows have on the public at large far outweigh the entertainment value or positive effects. While there are shows that are beneficial, reality television can have negative effects on the public because it can become an addiction, it raises the standard of beauty for women, and it can prematurely advance the development of sexuality in teenagers.…
Poetry can be compared and contrasted in many ways. I have chosen to compare and contrast two poems by Siegfried Sassoon. “His poetry both described the horrors of the trenches, and satirized the patriotic pretensions of those who, in Sassoon's view, were responsible for the pointless deaths of millions” (Wikipedia). His poems contains a deep meaning and an important message, his poetry has a passionate expression of outrage at the horrors of war and feels pity for the young soldiers who sacrificed their life. He writes from experiences he witnessed and heard of. These are both examples of the type of poems that Sassoon wrote to showcase the difficult lives faced by British soldiers in the trenches of World War I. He felt he had to expose the ugly face of war to the naive civilians on the home front.…
Why is reality TV such a popular genre that is watched by many? It is quite simple because it shows regular people in the cast and the public and the viewers can relate to them. “The fact that…the ‘characters’ on the show are selected from ‘ordinary’ life is a key part of this appeal” (Maasik and Solomon 228). The “characters” are not celebrities but just average people around the nation cast by the producers. The personal, emotional, and physical characteristics of these people's lives are televised for millions of people to watch, as they compete to win a large sum of money. But the one disappointment in these shows is that there is only one winner and the rest leave with nothing. What is it that people find so entertaining about these shows that keep them glued to their television week after week? Reality TV has become such a popular genre because the shows play on people’s emotions and imaginations which keep them coming back for more. An example of this is the show The Amazing Race.…
Reality Shows are genre of television shows or programmes which feature common people and or celebrities or both, in real life or scripted situations/environment or a mix of both real and scripted incidents. Reality Shows are also referred as ‘Reality Television’. Reality shows have become quite a rage of late; these were non-existent until the 1940’s. Reality shows in those times were quite authentic. This was because it was a new concept and as such manipulation was limited to only creating unordinary situations for ordinary citizens. However, the reality shows of today have blurred the reality. The irony of ‘Reality Shows’ is that even though they are known as ‘Reality Based Shows’; most of them are ‘Unreal’. Real Life is nothing, what popular Reality Shows depict. The idea of placing people in situations, just to see how they react, became imaginable and almost ‘Passé’. Audiences have seen and known what will happen. As such, previous projections of human behaviour do not hold that much ground as compared to the ones that are being churned out with all the melodrama and unexpected spoofs or stunts. Real Life on day to day basis is not as much Dramatic…
Advocates of reality shows say that these shows present true emotions and reactions of the participants in various situations and therefore, the audience connects with them. But in fact it is not so . The fact is that these are pre scripted, edited and manipulated to create sensational stuff. Mostly these shows have a bunch of young , good looking self publicists who are placed in unnatural situations , such as Big Boss house and Splitsvilla and then are provoked into behaving oddly. Only their most dramatic parts are shown on tv to create sensationalism.…
