I always wanted to go to college growing up, but because of my family, along with my sisters and myself, were born and raised in a refugee camp in Nepal, I had a feeling that college was a dream that would not come true for me. In 2012, we came to Salt Lake City, Utah. The school I did was from 9th grade. After resettlement in the United States, my parents are still struggling to look after the educational future of me and my sisters. My family said if I could find a way to pay for college. I began to apply for many scholarships, which would help to fulfill my dream and desire.…
My mother has made many sacrifices in hopes that I would pursue higher education. Pursuing a career through education is my dream too. I now have an opportunity to become the first person in my family to attend college, though I am in need of financial assistance to realize what has been a long-term goal for me and a dream for my mother.…
I don’t know if I feel that saying that I deserve this scholarship is the right thing to say, but going to Japan has been a goal of mine ever since I can remember. My grandfather was the one who really got me interested in Japan. He would always tell me stories about the culture, people, the little bits of language that he picked up, and the time that he spent there. My grandfather would have loved me going to Japan and would have supported me whole heartedly. I want to go to Japan not only to see what he saw, but also to improve the little that I know and improve myself.…
I firmly believe the "Courage to Grow" scholarship should be awarded to me because since I was very young, I have always had a strong love of learning. I did well throughout elementary, middle, and high school. I have always been motivated to do my best in school. Now that I am a second semester college sophomore, my love for school has only grown. During high school, I maintained a 3.3 GPA, and now that I am in college, I have managed a 3.4 GPA. This semester, I am working even harder for a higher GPA. In the spring of 2017, I plan to transfer as a junior to East Texas Baptist University. I have dreamed of attending this college since I was a freshman in high school. Since this is a private university, this dream will only come true based…
Honestly, I know little to nothing about the cost of college, but I have seen the toll of it from my parents. With my sister already in her junior year in a state university, they’ve told me time and time again to save water and electricity to reduce the costs of the bills. When I asked about it they listed to me all the different types of expenses they’ve had to pay for my sister: housing, tuition, food, and clothing. As a high school senior about to graduate and about to go to college, my parents had to pool their savings and what other money they have so that they can brace themselves to support me as well when I continue my education. Although it will be me in campus doing all the work, the cost itself to get me there is a heavy burden…
I unfortunately live in a low income household of five with everday struggles of looking after my siblings, paying bills, and maintaing the household. Neither one of my parents work so therewere a lot of responsibilities that I had to uphold to. I am the first person between both my parents that has taken the oppurtunity to attend college.…
Applying for college is a long process and is very expensive. It requires a lot of time and planning. Over the past 15 years, the average tuition for college has doubled. College tuition continues to rise and less money is provided for a higher level of education. Taking out loans and borrowing money from others is the easiest and most common way to pay for college and puts the student in a difficult situation, owing the amount of money that was taken out and the additional interest. After graduating, most students are in debt and have to pay the money back. To resolve the problem of student debt, there are several ways to approach it such as, applying for scholarships, working and saving paychecks,…
Throughout the United States, many young adults are piled with debt due to the excessive costs of a college education. Today in 2017, Americans owe more than 1.4 trillion dollars in student loan debt. In the United States, college is more expensive than almost any other country. Overall, it limits students abilities to reach their full potential. This impacts many families, even my own, from coast to coast. My family is middle class and I know there are plenty of families out there who have children that want to attend college, but are limited due to not being able to afford it. This is very significant to me as I see my older cousin, Katie, who now lives in Tennessee, struggle to even pay her bills as a high school teacher due to the amount of…
On June 26th, 2016 at Panther Launch I finally have been financially cleared so I could attend Virginia Union University. In order for me to get financially cleared I had to put up thousands of dollars in order to attend be financially cleared. The lump sum of money that I put up front before attending college was well over three thousand dollars. As I put up the lump sum of money it felt good because I will be attending college however, it was a little painful because just about all my hard earned money has been spent on tuition for Virginia Union University for only one year. In four months, I will be paying thirteen-thousand dollars for my first semester in college. In four months, I expect to look confident, happy, appeasing, and mature.…
Yet, though I have done everything in the classroom and community to prepare myself for higher education it seems that many days I am still falling short of the goal. Higher education is expensive and when I see my father putting in the hours he does to support us I get worried that I’m never going to be able to do enough. I will be responsible for paying for my education “What if I can’t make it,” worries a part of me every single day. The Hutch’s Scholars Award will help me in furthering my education. It will help alleviate some of the worry on how I will pay to go to college. Most importantly, it will show me and those around me that there are people who still believe in kids like me. There are people who still believe that the girl from Western Oklahoma can go on to make a difference in this…
I could use this scholarship to pay off some of my loans; I will take any help I can get. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity, which will motivate me to work even harder and get the weight off my parent’s shoulders.…
Hello friends. I deserve this scholarship because I own the paramount educational values that will guide me throughout my educational journey. I have a clear idea in mind of what I aspire to do with my life, and that makes everything much easier for me. Confidence is the best word to describe myself during this time of life. I go to a great school that I love, have amazing friends, and have been raised with parents who I want to make very proud. My academic goals include maintaining a 3.0 GPA for the rest of the three years I'm in school and earning an Exercise Science degree. From there, I plan to eagerly apply for jobs as I am tremendously excited about this degree and what it pertains. I am pursuing my passion, and that is what it is all about.…
In conclusion, I believe I should be considered for this scholarship because I am a very determined and hardworking individual. I am compassionate and strive to be a positive influence in people’s lives. Vegetarianism is important to me because it helped me discover who I am. Anxiety and low self esteem are my main weaknesses and sometimes they can get the best of me and tell me I’m not good enough, but my lifestyle has let me overcome those thoughts. I also would be greatly honored to get the scholarship because I want to be able to pay for my own college education. I don’t want to be a financial burden to my family. Family is so important to me because they have always been with me through thick and thin. I look up to my dad because he is…
“When you do the best, God will do the rest” – this quote is the lamp that guided me, and always will throughout my academic career. I still remember how uncomfortable it felt when I missed lessons and tuitions due to illness. I never wanted to let classes go unattended. I never wanted to burn the midnight oil when the exams are around the corner. I am always responsible, enthusiastic, organized and focused on achieving my goal. Since young, I’ve dreamed to become a learned man and serve my country in the future.…
The Affton Alumni Association Scholarship will make a difference in my post-high school education in three ways: financially, educationally, and personally. Financial assistance is a necessity for many college students, particularly those planning careers that require many years of education beyond the undergraduate level.…
