be legal and one of those reasons are using the drug for medical use. Many states in America have already legalized the use of marijuana for medical use only, while many states have not. Other countries like Canada have already allowed medical marijuana use.
Also, people against the legalization of marijuana quickly attack the topic of medical use of marijuana and instead state it as an unhealthy use for the human body system.
Other claims are the fact that people would abuse the drug and cause harm to the body. Marijuana is self has yet never been proven to cause any harm to the body and there is not a single recorded death of an overdose on marijuana. But just like everything else people do, it must be done in moderation like food, alcohol, tobacco etc. The reason why there aren’t any solid information against legalization is because it’s been already legal medically and many studies and tests have been done already to prove it. Over all there isn’t any reason for marijuana to be tested over and over …show more content…
again.
Last year, Dr. Sanjay Gupta came out with a video about how he was wrong about weed being an abusive and addicting drug. “They didn 't have the science to support that claim, and I now know that when it comes to marijuana neither of those things are true. It doesn 't have a high potential for abuse, and there are very legitimate medical applications. In fact, sometimes marijuana is the only thing that works.”(“Why I changed my mind on weed”) Gupta stated so many things that really proved that marijuana should be legalized.
Another belief that people for marijuana legalization have, is the thoughts of financial relief or some call the economic relief.
The main point of economic relief from marijuana legalization has been brought up many times and really only by the people who are for marijuana. Nobody wants America to recover economically by becoming a “pot nation” but it will help bring America out of the hole it is in by legalizing marijuana which would in no way hurt the American economy at all. Regulation of the drug will bring money into the state and ultimately the nation. “Medical marijuana in California brings in 14 billion dollars a year and with legalization it is expected to rise by 4 Billion dollars and that’s only California”. Imagine how it will be in other states that legalize it. (“Legalizing Marijuana Would Generate Billions In Additional Tax Revenue Annually”)
Some religions instruct their followers to use marijuana. “Just like Christianity and Judaism instruct their followers to drink wine on certain occasions, some Hindus, Buddhists, Rastafarians, and members of other religions use marijuana as part of their spiritual and religious ceremonies. These people deserve the freedom to practice their religion as they see fit. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution says that the government cannot “prohibit the free exercise” of religion, and so marijuana should be legal.”(“ Rastafari: The Secret History of the Marijuana
Religion”)
Most of the people who are against marijuana have never looked at the benefits and they probably won’t because they believe smoking is bad in general. No one is telling others to use marijuana either, the choice should be free for anyone chooses to do so. Everyone seeks pleasure in life every day and everyone should have his or her own way to get that. For some people, that source of pleasure is marijuana and all they want is to gain that pleasure by relaxing. Some say let the potheads smoke their marijuana in peace because all they want to do is enjoy life and it not to bother anyone. In the near future America will legalize marijuana use for its people and America will be put right back on their high horse. Americans deserve the right to decide whether or not they should use marijuana. The government should not tell individuals what to do as long as they don’t hurt others in the process.
